ALYoFinish it up Friday!

Image
"Weathered Wood" 60 x 75 Friday and the end of the month...all is good! I am posting my finish for the month, the "Barn Door" from the QAL over at Sarah Quilts . I am so happy with my finish. I am even more excited that it was all from my stash.  It was cold enough outside that the tape kept freezing and letting go so I had to just lay it down for pics.  I used the other hour glass block on the back and then used more stash fabrics to piece it all together. I kept with the Barn door theme and tried to quilt it up with a giant "Z" and I think the placement of some of the fabrics lend themselves to the idea of slats of wood.  It just goes to show that making yourself use what you have sometimes can be surprising. :)  I really love this one and I think it is my largest quilt yet on my home machine.  I am linking this up with  HERE my original goal post is  HERE Also linking up with Crazy mom Quilts for Finish it

WIP Wed

Image
Slow and steady....  I have worked a little bit on my Polka Dot Bikini QAL. I made half of all the surrounding blocks (20 blocks) and now need to make the scrappy blocks together so that I can cut them in a curve and sew on my finished part. whew! Lots of piecing and curves for me. It is starting to come together and I think all the scraps will be Kaffe Fassett fabric scraps. I have truly been hitting my stash piles this year. Woop Woop!     The 16 center blocks were finished last week I just have not put them together. Waiting for any adjustments I might need.  And because it is not enough to have at least 3 other projects in the works on my table, I decided to tackle an idea for these color scraps.   Most are less than 3/4ths of an inch wide. I have an idea I think I want to do with the rainbow colors and gray. Giving it a go. The scraps came from some gals that were at my guilds sew day. The use of these in something is a challenge so we will see what I come up wit

Project Quilting #4 = Blink

Image
"Blink" - Across the Universe Challenge Project Quilting @ Persimon Dreams  HERE 29 x 29 Pieced, raw edge applique Circle quilting  in white FMQing in clear  binding with a facing Project Quilting Season 5 #4 challenge "Across the Universe". At first I had no idea what I wanted to do with this challenge because it could be so many different things.  Then I remembered I had ear-marked an illusion quilt I wanted to try sometime and to me this spoke "Across the Universe" if I could pull it off.   You can see the quilting a little bit here The fabrics really are Kona plain black and white. Some of the photos are taking in lighted room and the others on the floor under a skylight so they really look different don't they? Don't look too long at some of these photos....Blink! :)  Here is an idea of how little my applique pieces were!  The backing is just plain print and the facing is a tiny geometric. I like how the qui

It's Friday! Lava Lamp Quilt

Image
So glad it is Friday and I have a finish this week!!          This was inspired by Jacquie Gering's version of a tumbler quilt pattern called "Lava Lamp Revisited" seen in the special issue of Modern Patchwork spring 2013.  This quilt is made from my stash. I actually won this fabric last year in a giveaway. (I already used it for a childs craft tote bag that I shared on here before). It is Michael Miller fabric designed by  Tamara Kate called "Flight Pattern".  Backing is a piece I also had in my stash from a line of Dear Stella. Worked perfect. just added some jumbo tumblers from a few pieces to compliment the front. Organic wavy line quilting to sort of go with the lava lamp vibe. Bound with scraps that fell off the sides and some leftover end pieces.  Finish size approx. 48" x 70". Flowers compliments of my husband for Valentine's day and they are still going strong! :) Linking up with Finish it up Friday

Polka Dot Bikini QAL progress

Image
Here it is, Feb 20th and the goal was to have quite a few blocks done on the Polka Dot Bikini QAL with Sharon @Colorgirl Quilts. Adding cornerstones on the 16 center blocks. Not sure of my color choices yet but I am going with it for a bit to see how it plays out in the outer border pieces and little squares which will be more Kaffe prints. (I think) This is a lot of curve piecing and I was skeptical about doing it. I bought the pattern back when Sharon posted it for sale on Craftsy. I just wanted to have it. The thing about having and then doing it are clearly two different things in my book. I wanted to have something to show for it. I pushed to get this caught up in the last two days.  What is funny is for some reason I have two other quilt projects in the works already this week. Sometimes it just gets crazy and you get a lot done. Sometimes not! This time I am and glad to be progressing this far. Linking up with Kelly @myquiltinfatuation  for Needle and thread thur

Finish it up

Image
Well, I was hoping to have a complete finish today instead I just have a finished top. I am in slug-bug mode and can't seem to snap out of it. I did snap a pic of the top though so that is progress.   Tumbler blocks - Lava Lamp style from a older magazine which I will write about when I have my finish. The fabric is mostly Flight Pattern from Michael Miller. It is hard to see some of the light print fabrics but it is so joyful up close. I waited all day for the sun to shine and it was...? not sure what happened there.  Then I put up a few more Mod Olive QAL (sewkindofwonderful) blocks up and took a pic of my design wall.   Not sure how I am going to lay them out yet but I have half the blocks done so far. They are a bit tricky and I am not liking some of the seams but for now this is progress.  Linking up with Crazy mom Quilts HERE

WIP Wed- Rolling through the stash

Image
Time for Wed WIP check-in! I dug out this stack of MM fabric called Flight Pattern that I won last year. I made my great niece a cute craft travel bag out of some of the prints   Thought it was time to get something made out of the rest.  Mostly light fabrics and a few have bolder prints. I chose the tumbler block because I wanted to make one of those again.   The pack of fabric came with 4 solids too. I will just say this Michael Miller fabric is just a dream to sew and press. The colors are really vibrant together. This quilt just makes me smile when I watch it come together.  Linking up with  HERE   and Let's Bee Social HERE

Project Quilting Season and Patone Challenge

Image
Project Quilting challenge = done! Here is my "Sweet Treats" inspired quilt for this round of Project Quilting hosted by Kim over at Persimon Dreams HERE My sweet interpretation comes from a couple of places. First, the Olympics starting this week. Love this! I love all the quilty goodness all over the place at this years Sochi Olympics. Such fun colors too! So watching the pre-Olympic news I caught a lot of their logos and one that kept coming up is the use of 'equilateral' triangles. I have wanted to try them again.  Second the location and all the beautiful scenery at the Olympics is just breathtaking. I am loving some of the beginning events too, especially the snow events like slope skiing. I then thought the triangles in shades of purple looked a lot like 'rock candy'. So this is my "Purple Rock Candy Mountain" quilt: Note: It just started snowing like crazy here so that is added bonus to my challenge theme. I have the mountai

Finish it up Friday, Sat

Image
Friday... I mean Saturday already. I am slow to the linky party but I will say I had some fun making the last two blocks for my SkillBuilder BOM from 2013 @ Pileofabrics.  This is the flange block and it was so fun to do. I have done some circles like this before but the extra wide flange not. I love how it came together.  I loved it so much I decided on doing some tiny piecing for the final block in the series since I was not doing the applique blocks. Here is what I came up with: I see the sun must have just been coming out when I snapped this one. oops! I love the misaligned lines.  Most importantly all 20 blocks are finished and I just need to quilt up the last half of them before learning how to piece the quilted blocks together. I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel! :) Linking up with Crazy mom Quilts Finish it up Friday HERE

Wed WIP..slow and steady

Image
Wednesday again? I have had an interesting week and sort of lost track of time. I tend to sew on something, cut out something, quilt something or just dream of doing something. Between all of that, I watch dvd's and tv series in one swoop and walk while listening to audio books. When one of those options is out of commission it seems everything is off. I am having a huge glitch with my tv and dvd player. Suddenly they won't work together so my little movie break has come to a halt. Today my cd player is giving me fits and it is the one in my sewing room so I am all discombobulated. ;) However, it has not stopped the progress I am making on some blocks I am doing for the Mod Olive QAL over at SewKindofWonderful.  HERE   Two more Skillbuilder blocks are ready to quilt QAYG style:   The second block is not from the Skillbuilder persay. I used the pixel block style again but made this much smaller to sort of make a wonky type of log cabin block. I am substitu
