ALYoF Sept and 3rd Quarter Finishes!

Image
Mod Olive qal My goal for Sept ALYoF was to back and quilt this Mod Olive quilt. I was hoping to bind it too but didn't make that quite. ***Note: I did get the binding done before I went to bed at ten...yeah!)   I decided with the bulking seams that I had to try just organic wavy lines down the diagonal through each color. I wanted to name it Mod Olive - 'Shaken not stirred'  but really this layout with the watery quilting is more "Stirred"! :) Here is my goal for Sept HERE The back was a fun combination of leftovers and some more Midcentury Modern Fabric line.  It has been dark and rainy all day so no great pics are going to happen tonight so I will see when I get home.  ...I finished! So on to ... My 3rd Quarter goals Set goals HERE I had 3 and I will say that was a stretch for me!!! 1. Was the DYO sampler from Sarah Quilts backing and finish Finished HERE 2. Was a test for Melissa@SewBittersweetDesigns  - Flowering Lonestar

A Day late but ALYoF for Sept is the plan!

Image
A day late to finish my goal for August ALYoF but it is finished now none the less.  It took me all month to work up the strength (not felt the best) to tackle doing a swirl FMQing design of some sort on this quilt. I figured since it was a scrap stash quilt why not? Many hours of breaking thread and neck ache but it is not too bad for my first time. You can really see all of the quilting on the red part on the back. The swirls are not so bad but the traveling part I rarely met up with an already quilted line. I think it is because I can not see that great. I have to quilt without my glasses so I can get close but I can't see around the darning foot. I need more practice no doubt about it! A finish a day late. Oh well.   54" x 60" approx. Scrappy stash fabrics and boat block from the SewCanShe BOM from July. Onward to a new month and a new project to finish. For September I am going to try to tackle the backing and quilting of the Mod Olive Quilt I did i

ALYoF goal for August - or late again to the boating party?

Image
I made the boat block last month for the SewCanShe classic BOM. The blocks are 24 1/2" and I was going to put them together for one boy quilt OR I have been toying with making 4 quilts and using up a bunch of fq to make the boat block the focal point. Either way I think my goal should be to do something with at least one of these blocks. Next month I am going to try not to post this on the last day of entry. ugh This is fair time here and I am busy with quilts and fair time fun. :) Linking up with here also please help me and my little Zen Moon block win the Singer Circles Challenge. If you look at the upper R hand corner of my blog page you will see the link. Voting is open till the end of the month.

ALYoFinishes for July - I almost didn't do it

Image
But I did do it!!!! :) I finished my DIY Sampler from earlier this spring. It is one of the biggest I have tried to free-motion quilt on my home machine. I even used my moms old machine with a darning foot. I did an all over mum design because of all the busy blocks and color. I won't lie, I had some teary moments when the thread would suddenly go off tension and eyelash and then I would stop and start and it would be fine again. I still have a couple spots I didn't fix. It is okay, this one is mine. Kind of hard to see the floral quilting as I used orange thread with the mostly orange back. I also used the walking foot with the guide on it to stitch the binding back. It is not my favorite looking method but it worked pretty slick. Most of my scraps went into the back plus one orphan block.  Looks like a picnic quilt to me. :)  54" x 70" All stash scraps used in this were from previous quilts or orphan blocks left over from the 2012 Craftsy bom c

A Lovely Year of Finished - July = just do it!

Image
I think my goal should be to bite the bullet and get this quilted. Since it is a scrap quilt there should be nothing to be afraid of and I should try some fun freemotion quilting on it! Okay I will give it a go. The month is already flying by so I better get on the stick!  Suggestions welcome....  Linking up  HERE

A Lovely Year of Finishes = June finished top

Image
I did it! I completed the top for the DYO Sampler from SewMamaSew Summer SAL designed by Sarah from Sarah Quilts HERE . I followed quite a bit of her block size layouts because I had quite a few orphan blocks that fit those sizes.  This top is made up of some orphan blocks from the 2012 Craftsy BOM and some old blocks I learned how to make from my mom. Other blocks are just scrap pieces I put together in an improv way.  I tried to get the balance of colors to play across the quilt top. Not sure I succeeded....BUT,I did use a lot of scraps and blocks. However, like most scrap projects, I still have lots of scraps from this.   sigh.......     My goal for June was to get the top done and maybe the backing. I have a couple leftover blocks for the back that I will work into the scrappy back.  I have to wait for a bit to tackle the back because this is so much bigger than I thought it would be. It is going to be a monster for me to quilt so I might have to think on it

June June June and a goal

Image
It's June and I am afraid that it is going to fly by.  You know that song "June is bustin' out all over" from Carousel? Well that is what it feels like around here. The garden is growing. The vegetable patch was looking pretty good but the high winds and rain flattened many of my plants last night. The little bit of hail didn't help either. The spring cleaning should be well under way...mine stalled out yesterday when I tried to get the hard water ring out of the toilet ( I did get it done but not much else on the cleaning front).  However, progress was made on my current WIP on the DYO sampler HERE  @ SewMamaSew designed by Sarah from Sarah Quilts blog. My second section is completed .   I used another Craftsy BOM (the one in the bottom left) and added in bits of the scraps from several quilts. I love using up the scraps that I kept (for this insane reason I guess) of the bits off of the backings and left over block parts.  The giant Bear Paw is a block I m

ALYoF for May goal

This month I want to go small. I think I can finish this little wall hanging up pretty quickly. I sort of have a project in my head that I want to work on and see if I can make it come to life. I made this little Churn dash from my stash so not sure what I will put on the backing or binding but we will see what I come up with.  Linking up with HERE

ALYoF April finish - Enchanté

Image
My year of Lovely finishes for April was just completed as the sun was going down behind the neighbors trees. I was able to take a few pics.  "Enchanté" - Little Black Dress by Basic Grey  49" x 51" Charm pack quilt plus a couple fat quarters and some black grunge and floral yardage. Straight line quilting.       I used some left over charm s for the piecing of the back. I love the fabrics in this collection. I tried to mix other fabrics of my stash in with this fabric collection but I just kept coming back to the collection pieces. I am glad to make this a finish. I have already collected some of Little Black Dress II for another idea. :)   My original goal post is HERE   linking up with HERE
