In the Pink

Image
This quilt I made using the  Quick Curve Ruler  by Sew Kind of Wonderful. I just love how easy it is to make curve blocks using this ruler.   I made this and several of their patterns for a demo I gave at one of my quilt guilds quilt show this last month.   This is one of those times that a deadline was good because that is almost all the sewing I have gotten to lately.  The pattern for this quilt is in their book One Wonderful Curve. I highly recommend this book if you want to give curves a try. Every pattern is so very different. And .......no I am not being paid by them I just love this product. :) I used all Moda Bella solids for this quilt. It measures approx 45" x 45" and simple straight line crosshatch quilting.  I love the movement it has. Makes me wish I had quilted it in circles.  Linking up with Kelly for  Needle and Thread thursday   and  Finish it up Friday  with Crazy Mom Quilts.

Friday Finish!

Image
From Flimsy to Finish in two days! So excited to have something finished from all the recent start projects I have going.  I have not been able to keep much focus so I start one thing and another and pull out something old and and and..... So happy to finish. This was a kit for Quilt for Kids and it was so easy to make. The kit had enough fabric for the back to just trim and bring around and stitch down on the front. Super easy.  I used my own tutorial for this  Back to Front Binding with Glue Basting . Simple and done! It has been raining on the mums so they are fading a bit but the marigolds looks good.  Linking up with  Crazy Mom Quilts  for Finish it up Friday and Needle and Thread Thursday  with Kelly who once again highlighted my quilt finish from last week. Friday Finish -Scraps Win!

Image
Scraps Scraps and more Scraps! They never end. I used scrap fabric, scrap bits of batting, scrap bits of leftover binding.  Does my scrap pile look smaller....um, No!  :) Still this finish makes me happy.  I am calling this one "Happiness". It measures in at 53" x 63".   I did the QAYG string method and then glue basted the blocks together and put the binding on. So simple and fun.  I started these blocks as part of a glue-baste technique demo at two of my guilds. I love how simple it is but truly effective. I love how you quilt it and the backing is done the front is done ....you're done! Very satisfying way to make a quilt quickly.  This shed is on my walking path and I finally stopped and as if I could use it for a quilt sometime and this quilt was perfect.  Can you tell I loved taking pictures there? This little quilt is probably going to be donated soon since the temps at night are dropping here. The backing was 3 pieces of fabric

Finish it up Friday- "He said, She said"

Out on my morning walk yesterday I found that someone had accented this building with just the right color to go with my wall-hanging! I have seen this building in many states of graffi ti but this was so cool.  The sun is a little bright but that is okay with me.  This is the pattern by LA modern guild member Liz Harvantine. I just love it. I made a version of this wall-hanging earlier this year for my niece for her wedding and called it "And there is love".  I focused the text print in the center on the words "& Love" HERE and just went with a wedding theme.  My version is called "He said, She said.... Love" 24" x 24" This has 28 different gray shaded fabrics in it. The text fabrics I have collected and some focus on sewing and literature for me and phone book listings and newsprint for my husband. And...green is one of my fav colors.  6 shades of gray thread used to matchstick quilt it.  I used this as one of my entries into the &#

Little pink houses..,

Image
So....that is not going to get changed! Can't believe I didn't see that I had two similar houses together.   Well this has been fun putting these together but now the pieces all over the place are driving me crazy so I must get this put together....as is!! :) This is from the Hillside Houses QAL @ Pretty Little Quilts. I just grabbed a bunch of Kona and went for it without using the coloring sheet. Yep, there ya go!   Linking up with Kelly @ My Quilt Infatuation

Trial Run

Image
One of my local quilt guilds had a group of lovely ladies come and talk about various charity and out reach programs last month. At the end of the talk I sent out a challenge to design a small quilt for one of them.  I handed out graph paper with the optional sizes on it and told them to keep it modern and simple.  We hope to have them turned in by next meeting and with a little luck and some volunteers, I hope to turn at least one of the designs into a kit-able quilt kit for others to sew up.  I thought I better give it a go so here is one of my simple modern designs. This went together really quick and didn't waste much fabric. I was able to grab fabrics I had on hand to go with the cute butterfly center fabric.   Since the design was so simple I took the time to free motion mums all over in Aurifil gray.  I am getting better at free motion but still not great. I could make several more of these before I will say good. :) I thought a local park was a good photo op

PQ - 12 Hearts or Mickey Mousing Around?

Image
This is my quilt for the PersimonDreams  "Have a Heart" Challenge.  Season 6 project 4 already!  We had to include 12 hearts. Well...I am not a huge heart fan and I know there are lots of ways to do them out there. I wanted to improv some somehow. I came up with these.     Not all hearts have to be rounded...right? Okay so these look a bit like Mickey Mouse especially with this dotted fabric.  Fine with me!!       I quilted all around but only quilted V's in the heart blocks. I thought it would make it puffy and fun but it makes it even more like Mickey Mouse! haha        No matter how you show it...indoors or out  in the snow it still looks like 12 Mickey ears. :)  I had this cool variegated bubble fabric from Clothworks in my stash so I used that for the back.  The gray on the front is a cross hatch gray that I love but not sure where I picked that up from. It was also in my stash.     I started out with a stack of do

SuperNova Friendship swap - Finish ALYoF

Image
I can't help it ...this quilt makes me smile!  My swap partner Jenn  Jennifer under the Juniper Tree  (her post on her version is up so go check it out) and I finished our quilts. We made them big and bright and scrappy and they are finished. Did I say that already??? Both of us finished! Okay, enough. The swap was the brainchild of Stephanie from  Late Night Quilter and Sandra from One Million Stitches . The challenge swap ends Feb 14 and Lee Heinrich herself from Freshly PIeced and the designer of the SuperNova  will be the judge. Now more pics:    There is a little up close view of the straight line grid quilting using aurifil in 2600 again! Lastly I leave you with this picture (dig the sun going down sprinkling light on the blocks!!!) of my SuperNova with a factory in the back ground and little note from the  NASA website as to  "What is a SuperNova"? A supernova is the explosion of a star. It is the largest explosion that takes

Polka Dot Bikini QAL progress

Image
Here it is, Feb 20th and the goal was to have quite a few blocks done on the Polka Dot Bikini QAL with Sharon @Colorgirl Quilts. Adding cornerstones on the 16 center blocks. Not sure of my color choices yet but I am going with it for a bit to see how it plays out in the outer border pieces and little squares which will be more Kaffe prints. (I think) This is a lot of curve piecing and I was skeptical about doing it. I bought the pattern back when Sharon posted it for sale on Craftsy. I just wanted to have it. The thing about having and then doing it are clearly two different things in my book. I wanted to have something to show for it. I pushed to get this caught up in the last two days.  What is funny is for some reason I have two other quilt projects in the works already this week. Sometimes it just gets crazy and you get a lot done. Sometimes not! This time I am and glad to be progressing this far. Linking up with Kelly @myquiltinfatuation  for Needle and thread thur
