P.Q. 13.4 QAYG -mining for diamonds

Image
51 x 51 approx. This weeks challenge from  Project Quilting 13.4  is Mining for Diamonds.  You can click on link to take you to see all the interpretations. Mine came from my stash and a need to empty out some bags of chunks of fabrics I have stashed and also my sister gave me a bag of her cut offs of batting.  I have wanted to do another QAYG (quilt as you go) project. I love them. Here are a couple from my past go at them:  Under the rug and  Scrappy strings This time I decided to see if there were any other methods to use. I pulled out the fabrics I had stashed and saw that I could use the coordinates pretty easily.  With the bigger pieces I thought I could do more. I found a tutorial and free pattern with some videos  by Monica Poole . This to me looked pretty simple and accurate so I decided to give it a go.  I liked that I was able to use my big bias tape maker which was sitting in a drawer.  (one of my goals this year is to use rulers, patterns etc that I own) This pattern is no

Friday Finish -Scraps Win!

Image
Scraps Scraps and more Scraps! They never end. I used scrap fabric, scrap bits of batting, scrap bits of leftover binding.  Does my scrap pile look smaller....um, No!  :) Still this finish makes me happy.  I am calling this one "Happiness". It measures in at 53" x 63".   I did the QAYG string method and then glue basted the blocks together and put the binding on. So simple and fun.  I started these blocks as part of a glue-baste technique demo at two of my guilds. I love how simple it is but truly effective. I love how you quilt it and the backing is done the front is done ....you're done! Very satisfying way to make a quilt quickly.  This shed is on my walking path and I finally stopped and as if I could use it for a quilt sometime and this quilt was perfect.  Can you tell I loved taking pictures there? This little quilt is probably going to be donated soon since the temps at night are dropping here. The backing was 3 pieces of fabric

Around the World Blog Hop

Image
"So Blue" at Memorial Gardens I am really excited to be included in the Around the World Blog Hop today. I was nominated by Melissa over at SewBitterSweetDesigns . I have been following Melissa each month for A lovely year of Finishes for a long time.  Most recently I tested a pattern for a Flowering Lonestar that is Melissa's design. That was my first time testing so this was really fun. Flowering Lonestar Okay to start off my post I am just going to mention a little bit about myself. I have been around quilting and quilters all my life it seems. I started out sewing clothing and crafts when I was little. My first outfit, a pink slub double knit outfit, bellbottom elastic waist pants and matching jacket vest was super stylin' if you know what I mean!! Doll clothes followed and some embroidery and crochet projects. My first quilt was drafted from a magazine picture when I was in high school.  Called "Sunshine and Shadow", an Amish trip around

Project Quilting Season 5 - #1

So excited that Kim over at  Persimon Dreams is hosting Project Quilting again this year. It was so fun last year and I accomplished a lot.  This year I had so many ideas for this first Challenge. I wanted to do something more arty but when it came down to it I really need to make lap or baby size quilts for some of the charities I contribute to. I am sure I will do something more artsy before the challenge is over but for today I am going with a version of a scrap quilt.  The Challenge is "String Along with Me" I used the same strip quilt as you go as I did in a quilt I made last Oct following Maureen Cracknell and her Herringbone QAYG quilt tutorial.  This was is called Scrappy II  it is 43 x 45. All scrap strings, scrap batting pieces and scrap binding. It might not be very creative but my scrap box is looking so much better!  (notice the fun fabric I found for the back...lovely dotty diamonds!) Simple quilting since each strip was quilted right to

Finish it up Friday (Saturday)

Image
I actually finished this quilt project up last night but in the dark gloom I could not take any pictures. Now it is very early Saturday and still not enough daylight to take a decent picture..hrmmph! I am posting it anyway so I can link up before noon. I will take a better picture (in later post) as it is going to be linked up to the first Project Quilting over at Persimmon Dreams this Sunday.  (more about the challenge in later post) My version was changed because of the scraps of batting sizes I had left. I just made the blocks using most of the batting pieces. It ended up making this repeating diamond shape.  It finished at about 42 X45 " Perfect for going on my charity pile.   This one makes me almost as happy as my  Scrap Happy Time back in Oct 2013 This was a tutorial for a QAYG Herringbone by Maureen Cracknell see link.  Linking up with Crazy mom quilts
