WIP 4 Pick up Sticks

Image
My bag eliminating continues. If you have been following me this year I have not been cleaning and organizing per say but I have been keeping things neatly together over the years. What I am finding out is that I have tons of fabrics filed away in bags waiting for whatever it is to be finished. I keep the relevant coordinates together or shades or whatever. This does have its advantages as I can pull it up and not have to rematch etc. However, it also has its pitfalls. I just commented to another blogger that I loved her blue quilt and wondered why I didn't have much blue fabric. Well, the answer = I have bunches of it packed away with projects! sigh.... Slowly I am pulling up these project bags and deciding to continue or let go of all the fabrics held hostage!  This bag was a bag of string cutoffs of AGF. I love their feel and texture and started a improv crib quilt with them. Then got busy and moved on.  While I did not empty the bag of strings I did finish up with this gray kon

47" x 54" Little creatures from Cori Dantini line of fabric  I have learned that I do not really do well by organizing my sewing area. I clean up a bit and don't let it get too out of control as I go. This works best because in organizing in the past I lose things? Am I the only one? I put all things nice and neat somewhere but that is not where my mind saw it last so I have trouble finding it again to actually use.  This year I want to use the patterns and rulers I have and of course my fabric stash. So on organizing...a waste of time for me because I am messy but not THAT messy. ha  One way I try to stay neat is to put projects together with fabric pattern and so on in a baggie. What I realized though is that I usually have all fabrics tied up then with the project just in case I may need them. So I plan to do some bag busting this year too.  One bag was this cute Cori Dantini creatures bag. Full of tons of matching and coordinating line of fabrics. My directions as to

WIP - swirl

Image
Not quite sure what I am doing with this improv swirl piece.  I was just so excited that I could improv it around and around. I made it to a size I thought was big enough and then wanted to sort of swirl out  of it. It reminds me of a fabric corsage. :) I think this is the better direction but I have to set it aside and stew on a it a bit. Any comments or ideas are welcome...finish as is ?  For now I am just pleased it lays almost flat!!  linking up with WIP Wed. over at  Freshly Pieced and Let's Bee Social over at  Sew Fresh Quilts

Triangle along = Come on get happy!

Image
That is the song I have been singing since I started sewing the rows together for the Triangle Along. I don't think that is what I am going to name this but I thought if I kept saying those lyrics then maybe....just maybe things would start going right. Not! The quilt along triangles are not hard to put together. I have made a couple of smaller triangle quilts. Something in the stars were not lined up with me is my guess on this one. I still have one mistake to turn around but I have never had to rip out so much in my life. I kept all of the rows, pairs etc just how they were supposed to be but next thing I knew they were backwards. I took the time to press each row in opposite directions, first with two pairs and then as I when I had four together...then suddenly half of them were ironed the wrong way in the same row???  Like I said....stars were not aligned. I am pondering the idea that the first layout I had was a star pattern and then I changed my mind...not sure. Jus

Wed WIP..slow and steady

Wednesday again? I have had an interesting week and sort of lost track of time. I tend to sew on something, cut out something, quilt something or just dream of doing something. Between all of that, I watch dvd's and tv series in one swoop and walk while listening to audio books. When one of those options is out of commission it seems everything is off. I am having a huge glitch with my tv and dvd player. Suddenly they won't work together so my little movie break has come to a halt. Today my cd player is giving me fits and it is the one in my sewing room so I am all discombobulated. ;) However, it has not stopped the progress I am making on some blocks I am doing for the Mod Olive QAL over at SewKindofWonderful.  HERE   Two more Skillbuilder blocks are ready to quilt QAYG style:   The second block is not from the Skillbuilder persay. I used the pixel block style again but made this much smaller to sort of make a wonky type of log cabin block. I am substitu

Since it is only the 3rd of July and I already have a finish, I am going to talk about that first.  I recently checked out the book " Modern Quilts from the Blogging Universe" published by Martingale.  Angela Nash over at mythreesonsknit.blogspot.com made the StarFlower quilt design and I loved it. WIP Wednesday ...so soon?

Image
You know the old adage...the more you do the more there is to do? Well I have been getting lots done but the things I want to make and do keep growing.  I guess that is a good thing. I sure would hate it if I ran out of UFO's and random piles of fabric. ha...as if! My WIP this week is for  Le Challenge  and this month the theme is "Wings". I have some new techniques I want to try out so I thought this month it might come together. ......I said "might"?? This is pretty crazy and wild fabric but I am hoping the trapunto I am going to try will calm it down. I think no matter what it is a good chance to try something new.  You will have to wait and see how it goes. The deadline for the challenge is the 15th of the month. Why don't you go over and check out the blog and give it a try yourself.  I did finish my Skill Builder BOM Block ...well one of them from last month. I still have to quilt but believe me that will be the easy part.  Also finish
