Fun with Flannel and more

Image
I recently dug in my closet and found a box of 5" flannel squares I had cut out a few years ago. I made a simple tie quilt with them and thought it was time to use up the rest of the box. (did not succeed but every bit helps) Most of these were from old flannel shirts of my husbands.  I found a soft layer of fleecy blanket left over from a previous denim quilt. I had an old blanket that had two soft layers perfect for the inside of a simple flannel quilt like this. I was however short about 6" so I frankensteined some small pieces of batting onto the edge. I had no idea if it would work but I tied this and washed it and everything is fine! Simple ties in each square held it together just right.  Another recycle/upcycle project completed.  The trouble with digging in a craft closet, well any closet really is you never know what you will find. I came across this old pair of pants my husband had. It had ginormous side pockets on the leg perfect to make over into a bag. So I made

My lovely niece Lisa made this fabulous scene. The tall white tree was cut with her Cricut machine. So were the framed picture and the tiny bits that make up those cool balls. These are all so wonderful. Like a wonderland!  I like to think I am creative with my quilting but this was all another level that i just had to share.  Also recently my last post was on the test quilt "Eternal Moment' That I did for Simone Quilts. Read about it  HERE   Her pattern is in the last issue of Make Modern Magazine. I thought I would post that the magazine used my test quilt in their newsletter! Here is my screen shot: Then recently my friend Sheila used one of my quilts for her Mid Century Modern Doll class teaching her young students about the 50's in her Doll and me classes. (American Doll series she does at the International Quilt Museum her in Lincoln ) Seriously cute stuff. My quilt is the upper Left. It is Mod Olive pattern by Sew Kind of Wonderful. Love the qui

WIP experiment with something new

I have a thing about the art of Amedeo Clemente Modigliani. I have been wanting to practice thread sketching some more so decided to try my hand at this little lady.   Proportion is off but I don't even care. This was so fun to do. This is Madame Raynouard 1916.   I am doing an organizational challenge right now too and I found a couching foot that I have never used before so I couched some yarn to the edge. Needs fuller yarn or rattail but for this practice piece it was fine.  She is approx. 8" x 10" and already stuck to my wall.  I also made up a few drool bibs this week to send to my great nephew. I hope they work. They are the bandana style made with flannel and or terry cloth.  Turned out sweet!!! LInking up with Lorna @ Let's Bee Social  HERE

Doing my thing, MIA and WIP

Helloooo Hellooooo Helloooo.....is anyone still there?  It has been so long. I have been mia but working on various projects. Some not worthy of pics like my husbands work truck seat cover, though made from upcycled jeans, not photo worthy!  I have been working on various quilt blocks for some group projects in some of my guilds.  HST for some diamond blocks that will be made into an opportunity quilt for one of my guilds.  The hst's were super fun to make.  I also worked on some  heart blocks for PULSE in Orlando. Both Modern guilds I am in were making some.  The left over hst's that fell off the heart went into the diamond block above. I could not help but play with the tiny hst's that fell off too.....a mini diamond!!!! love it so much.  I took a pic of a stack of various sized squares I cut from a big back of scraps donated to me of flannel.  I took a pic because the stacks were high (can't see that from this angle now can you?) silly. Anyway th

Dusting off that Serger

Sewing Clothing Challenge - Entry #1 Well I did it! I  pulled out some fabric from my stash, dusted off that old serger,  found an old pattern and I made myself a new pair of flannel pj's!! I am so excited.  My husband was sort of nagging me about how bad my old pair of flannel jammies were looking AND I really want to challenge myself this year to sew more!  The Sewing Clothing challenge has begun.  I am going to try to make one new thing for myself each month besides quilting this year.   Am I the only person who has tons of fabric in my stash that is not for quilting?  Well that was over 4 yards of flannel. My stash should look a tiny bit smaller. haha
