Dapple - a Floating Square Score

Image
Dapple - a Floating Square Score 43" x 43"   Spiral quilting with Aurifil thread.   Recently we had a sew day at the museum working on improv. We were lucky enough to have Sherri Lynn Wood stop by on her cross country book tour and give a talk. We were really inspired by her book and wanted to try one of the scores.  You can read more about her visit HERE.   It was exciting to be a little part in having her visit us. My piece took on a life of it's own when the flower print kept falling off the shelf. Have you ever been chosen by a fabric?  I think this one wanted to be in this one for sure. :)     This is a sample of all the floating square scores from several that came to the Improv Sewing day.  What a great mix of color and design.   Literally ....floating squares!!! Trial Run

One of my local quilt guilds had a group of lovely ladies come and talk about various charity and out reach programs last month. At the end of the talk I sent out a challenge to design a small quilt for one of them.  I handed out graph paper with the optional sizes on it and told them to keep it modern and simple.  We hope to have them turned in by next meeting and with a little luck and some volunteers, I hope to turn at least one of the designs into a kit-able quilt kit for others to sew up.  I thought I better give it a go so here is one of my simple modern designs. This went together really quick and didn't waste much fabric. I was able to grab fabrics I had on hand to go with the cute butterfly center fabric.   Since the design was so simple I took the time to free motion mums all over in Aurifil gray.  I am getting better at free motion but still not great. I could make several more of these before I will say good. :) I thought a local park was a good photo op

Polka Dot Bikini QAL progress

Image
Here it is, Feb 20th and the goal was to have quite a few blocks done on the Polka Dot Bikini QAL with Sharon @Colorgirl Quilts. Adding cornerstones on the 16 center blocks. Not sure of my color choices yet but I am going with it for a bit to see how it plays out in the outer border pieces and little squares which will be more Kaffe prints. (I think) This is a lot of curve piecing and I was skeptical about doing it. I bought the pattern back when Sharon posted it for sale on Craftsy. I just wanted to have it. The thing about having and then doing it are clearly two different things in my book. I wanted to have something to show for it. I pushed to get this caught up in the last two days.  What is funny is for some reason I have two other quilt projects in the works already this week. Sometimes it just gets crazy and you get a lot done. Sometimes not! This time I am and glad to be progressing this far. Linking up with Kelly @myquiltinfatuation  for Needle and thread thur

WIP Wed. progress or diversion?

Image
Sometimes when I think too long on a problem quilt or a hard project I feel the need to just sew. I happen to have some fat quarters that I came across when straightening up around my cutting table (another diversion from hard project).  I can't remember ever making a log cabin quilt before. I starting playing with the fat quarters and on such a small scale comes these little 4.5" blocks.    I like it so far. I have 36 little blocks. I am not sure if I will keep making them or stop there. There are lots of layout possibilities. Right now I am leaning towards a star shape. I don't know...this was just a diversion. I think I am ready to get back to the other projects now so this will sit on the back burner a bit.  There is a group on FB from  SewCanShe that is making things this week with mini log cabin blocks. So fun. (it might motivate me)??? For now off to work on what I was working on before I got distracted!! :) Linking up with Lorna with Let's
