Sundown on the scraps

Image
This is the last bits of scraps from the big bag I decided to tackle. My lqg had an improv challenge and I was not going to participate because I have several improv projects already started that would not qualify for the challenge. However, when I was working on my scrap bag, I had these few that sort of looked good together.  I was just stripping them with no real plan and then in the bottom of the scrap bag was a circle already turned back in the yellow/gold fabric I had used in the strips....Fortunate? I think so. ha You might think no after you read the poem I came up with below. I am not a writer of anything and I don't like to read out loud things I have written but I did at my guild the other night...who knows why? Sundown on Scraps I see you staring back at me, from the far back corner of the room. Ignored and chastised for your girth And cursed at when I dig through you, for  giving birth. Endless times I attempt to sew you only to create more fluff. I surely can get to

Scrap Adventure

Image
Yesterday my friend Jen and I got together to soak up some street art. I happened to have a few quilts I needed to post about so it was perfect.  Jen found this great wall and so I made her be my quilt holder.  This one is a scrappy coin improv quilt.  42"X 49" organic wavy line quilting You would think a lot of scraps were used but...not so much.  There she is (Jen) in this cool alley she found.  Another scrappy finish. This one a UFO from a year couple years ago. 50"x 59" scrap made fabric then set in the circle (so fun) cross square straight line quilting Another cool mural wall with a giant frog.  I should name it Peek-a-boo just for Jen! Again some scraps but not a lot. One thing Jen wanted to do was an activity with paint chips. We headed out to a couple places and found some fun colors.....um, quilt colors of course.  We were to somehow make a poem though so using the names of the paint chips here goes..... "Starting today, as the sun goes down the lovel

plus Six makes EIGHT

makes 8. I was able to take some time since last months sew day for Quilts for Kids and get these beauties put together and quilted.  On our sew day in June several ladies brought squares to swap with some of mine to make the 3 scrappy quilts on the left. We used  Allisons Tutorial: Easy stack cut and sew blocks  over at Cluck Cluck Sew.  These 6 plus the other two I previously made this year  HERE  and  HERE  make 8!  Happy 8th Birthday Lincoln Quilts for kids group!!! Here are some of the blocks we made during the day.  I went to visit my sister one day and she helped me prepare for the sew day. We cut enough blocks for several quilts.  You can see how fun the blocks are when they are coordinated or when they are scrappy! And they go together fast. I would recommend this as a group project.  After quilting those in 3 days I had a feeling that my sewing machine might need some love. It is currently in for service. I am using my Babylock Jane to fre

I worked on this for a local charity the Lincoln Chapter of Quilts for Kids. I started the top while having a fun sew day at the International Quilt Study Center Museum. Finished size 41" x 52" approx. All scraps from my stash Linking up with Crazy Mom Quilts and Jenn of A quarter inch from the edge guest hosting for TGIFF and Sew Can She Show off Saturday

A Lovely Year of Finishes = June finished top

Image
I did it! I completed the top for the DYO Sampler from SewMamaSew Summer SAL designed by Sarah from Sarah Quilts HERE . I followed quite a bit of her block size layouts because I had quite a few orphan blocks that fit those sizes.  This top is made up of some orphan blocks from the 2012 Craftsy BOM and some old blocks I learned how to make from my mom. Other blocks are just scrap pieces I put together in an improv way.  I tried to get the balance of colors to play across the quilt top. Not sure I succeeded....BUT,I did use a lot of scraps and blocks. However, like most scrap projects, I still have lots of scraps from this.   sigh.......     My goal for June was to get the top done and maybe the backing. I have a couple leftover blocks for the back that I will work into the scrappy back.  I have to wait for a bit to tackle the back because this is so much bigger than I thought it would be. It is going to be a monster for me to quilt so I might have to think on it

A Friday Finish = Friendship Star

Image
So instead of getting some great pics of my finished Friendship Star quilt I went out to lunch and did some shopping with a friend. :) I am happy with the finish and I quilted it with wavy lines which is one of the programed stitches on my machine. I love how crinkly it turned out. You can see the crinkles a little better here. I am still not sure about using all that white on white fabric for this quilt but it looks so springy. Linking up with Crazy mom quilts Finish it up Friday (even though I am late) HERE
