WIP Wed - experimenting

Image
Not much action here but I wanted to experiment with some foundation piecing from our mini guild class last night. One of our members Suzanne gave us a quick class on foundation piecing her tree pattern. Three little cutie patootie trees! I love them. Maybe I will do more??? Blogger's Quilt Festival entry for Fall 2014

Image
I decided to enter the Festival again this year. I get so excited to see what everyone has made. Once I see the entries start rolling in I think I shouldn't enter but I have to say I am really proud of this piece. I am going to enter it in the Art category because to me it IS art! Portrait of my Mother at the Joslyn Art Museum "So Blue" approx. 40" x 50" We stopped to take a picture at the Memorial Gardens also. You can sort of see the grid quilting I did over the piece. I think it adds to the pixilation.   This garden has over 1200 different rose varieties. Too sunny that day but you can see some of the roses all around. One block finished of the partial eye. The pixels are sewn into 1" finished squares. Two rows finished! To see about some of the construction of this labor of love go HERE Linking up with the wonderful host of the Festival,  Amy from Amy's Creative Side  (in the Art Category) HERE  if you want to vot

Friendship, Procrastination and Cuddles

Image
It was time to post about the last block of our Supernova Friendship Block swap a week ago....sigh (top two are mine, bottom two are Jens) I am just now getting around to posting the pic! My now, "good" friend Jennifer from Jennifer under the juniper tree  thankfully, has already posted our finished blocks. Proof, that yes indeed I had my block done AND we actually made extra blocks so that our quilts would be 12 blocks instead of 10.  Jen could not make herself put one of the blocks on the back. I agree! This was so fun and I am so thankful to have met up with Jen. Our sharing friendship question this month was on unexpected blessings in our lives. I have to say this experience with Jen has been that and more! You just never know what you might find in a neighborhood near you. Jen doesn't live very far from me so this has been a double blessing in disguise. I hope we do lots more quilting things after the quilts are done. Here we are at that Luke Haynes talk.

ALYoF Sept and 3rd Quarter Finishes!

Image
Mod Olive qal My goal for Sept ALYoF was to back and quilt this Mod Olive quilt. I was hoping to bind it too but didn't make that quite. ***Note: I did get the binding done before I went to bed at ten...yeah!)   I decided with the bulking seams that I had to try just organic wavy lines down the diagonal through each color. I wanted to name it Mod Olive - 'Shaken not stirred'  but really this layout with the watery quilting is more "Stirred"! :) Here is my goal for Sept HERE The back was a fun combination of leftovers and some more Midcentury Modern Fabric line.  It has been dark and rainy all day so no great pics are going to happen tonight so I will see when I get home.  ...I finished! So on to ... My 3rd Quarter goals Set goals HERE I had 3 and I will say that was a stretch for me!!! 1. Was the DYO sampler from Sarah Quilts backing and finish Finished HERE 2. Was a test for Melissa@SewBittersweetDesigns  - Flowering Lonestar

WIP - End of Summer

Image
The weather lately means it is the end of summer. I still think my new quilt block quilt is pretty sizzling hot!  I love this block and how it came together. So far I added the corner stones and surrounding half stones. I really don't think I want a border on this but will use the orange or yellow for binding maybe. Still deciding. No idea how I am going to quilt around those jagged blocks yet either. Any ideas?  I have the back pieced and should try to get to it yet this week. Friendship Blocks in September

Image
Time again for the  SuperNova Friendship block swap.  Jennifer from Jennifer under the juniper tree  is my partner in design, color design that is. We are mixing up some shades of rainbow colors to complete our Friendship blocks.  This month Jen did a hot green and I did a blue. This month the Friendship Block exchange question was a tough one.   Jen and I both talked about this topic and realized it was too hard to share out there in the blog land. Here is the subject up for discussion and see what you think: " Forgiveness is an integral part of any healthy relationship. What does forgives mean to you? Share with your partner an example of a time you had to forgive someone — or someone had to forgive you — and how it strengthened the relationship." In a general way I believe forgiveness means that you are ready to move on and there are no regrets, grudges, or contempt. That it is all behind you and you can carry on with your life.  What comes to mind is "e

WIP Wed -where does time go?

Image
I dug through my stash and found some pieces that sort of go together with my new block. I really like how they came together. Now I am deciding if I should piece in a cornerstone or not. hmm??? Time seems to be flying by and not much sewing happening.  So keep on keepin' on. ;) Linking up with WIP Wed with Lee @ Freshly Pieced and Let's Bee Social with Lorna @ SewFreshQuilts Let's BEE social
