WIP on DYO sampler for summer SMS-along

Image
....And that is saying something! :P I have to let you all know I am just glad to be saying or showing anything at all. I have been so blah lately. Too many things going on and not enough going right or what have you. I hope this is the start of something good!! I have wanted to do the DYO Sampler quilt posted by Sarah Schraw @Sarahquilts to SewMamaSew Summer sew along HERE . I used Sarah's layout because I already had some orphan blocks in mind and they fit into a couple of her size places. I also dug into my scraps and found strips and bits to piece together for more scrap blocks that fit pretty easy. It is hectic and I like it. I am just so (sew) happy to get through some scraps and use up these orphans. Super old orphan - school house block. I found it in an old sewing box I had and thought I could make it work in with my others. I don't even think they are cotton fabrics in that block???  I am pretty sure, if memory serves, that my mom was trying to show me

Blogger's quilt festival - Improv leaves

Image
Blogger's Quilt Festival time!!! Love this Festival and so grateful for Amy @ AmysCreativeSide.com HERE  for hosting it. This year I decided to go for it. I know my photos are not great but I so loved doing this project. This is a leaf diptych I made for a Christmas present for one of my sisters.  Please excuse the salmon colored wall behind! :(    I am going to enter this in the Art Quilt category HERE . I hope it is allowed to enter them together since they are meant to be together. Each part measures approx. 17"x 20".  Batik fabric used for all the components of the leaves. FMQing throughout on home machine. The entire project was seamed together (no applique) as free form improv piecing. I really don't like that salmon wall back there! Facing turned backing.   Up close quilting     I wish I would have taken better photos or I wish I knew how to use my new desktop to edit the photos but alas.... I am just going for it! Please

ALYoF for May goal

Image
This month I want to go small. I think I can finish this little wall hanging up pretty quickly. I sort of have a project in my head that I want to work on and see if I can make it come to life. I made this little Churn dash from my stash so not sure what I will put on the backing or binding but we will see what I come up with.  Linking up with HERE

Come on get Happy Finish!

Image
"Come on Get Happy"  Triangle Along - HERE I debated over the name of this little quilt. I felt like it was needing a name like Lily pad or Sunlight on the Pond. After my trials of working on this quilt a few weeks ago and I titled my post "Come on Get Happy", it sort of stuck in my head like the song.  You remember it right??? Partridge Family probably dates me a bit but it makes me smile to sing the song so I think it will make someone happy to get this quilt with that name too! ALYoF April finish - Enchanté

Image
My year of Lovely finishes for April was just completed as the sun was going down behind the neighbors trees. I was able to take a few pics.  "Enchanté" - Little Black Dress by Basic Grey  49" x 51" Charm pack quilt plus a couple fat quarters and some black grunge and floral yardage. Straight line quilting.       I used some left over charm s for the piecing of the back. I love the fabrics in this collection. I tried to mix other fabrics of my stash in with this fabric collection but I just kept coming back to the collection pieces. I am glad to make this a finish. I have already collected some of Little Black Dress II for another idea. :)   My original goal post is HERE   linking up with HERE

A Friday Finish = Friendship Star

Image
So instead of getting some great pics of my finished Friendship Star quilt I went out to lunch and did some shopping with a friend. :) I am happy with the finish and I quilted it with wavy lines which is one of the programed stitches on my machine. I love how crinkly it turned out. You can see the crinkles a little better here. I am still not sure about using all that white on white fabric for this quilt but it looks so springy. WIP churn dash

Image
Tried my hand at a few small 6" churn dash blocks. I am hooked. They are so fun and cute to make.  I was just going to try a few blocks in all solids and then I decided this little 9 patch needed some print. I will now have to make more for the blocks I didn't use. Is it me or sometimes you just move from project to project making more projects??? Triangle along = Come on get happy!

Image
That is the song I have been singing since I started sewing the rows together for the Triangle Along. I don't think that is what I am going to name this but I thought if I kept saying those lyrics then maybe....just maybe things would start going right. Not! The quilt along triangles are not hard to put together. I have made a couple of smaller triangle quilts. Something in the stars were not lined up with me is my guess on this one. I still have one mistake to turn around but I have never had to rip out so much in my life. I kept all of the rows, pairs etc just how they were supposed to be but next thing I knew they were backwards. I took the time to press each row in opposite directions, first with two pairs and then as I when I had four together...then suddenly half of them were ironed the wrong way in the same row???  Like I said....stars were not aligned. I am pondering the idea that the first layout I had was a star pattern and then I changed my mind...not sure. Jus
