Path Interrupted - PQ 10.2

Image
"Path Interrupted"  is my  Project Quilting 10.2 for the  red, white and blue theme. 20" x 27" improv pieced improv walking foot quilting in a woven pattern of organic lines made in Ne. I have to admit that red, white and blue are not my favorite combination of colors. I thought about just using 2 colors but I could not think of what I wanted to make for this challenge. In the mean time I was getting the email updates from  Amy's creative Side  on getting started with Improv. I adore improv and while I have not been joining in on the daily challenges I have been following along. I finally thought to get myself unstuck on the PQ challenge that I would cut some strips of red, white and blue pieces and put some strip sets together.  .....and what if I cut those strips up and inserted some other strips? I was starting to get a feel for where this was going. I love the dark navy batik print I found in my stash. I think it feels like trees

Project Quilting 2019 Season 10.1

Image
2019 starts Season 10 of Project Quilting hosted by Kim  Persimon Dreams . The first challenge for the season was "Hope Springs Eternal".  I did not have a resolution this year but in my head I want to use a lot of what I have and dig out my patterns and books and just have fun making stuff. Well when the challenge came last Sunday I thought that the Hula Girl pattern by Sharon over @ Color girl Quilts  fit the bill. I love the linking rings in this quilt. Well, truthfully I had a bit of trouble paper piecing them to size from my printer but now I love them. haha The rings link in a way that allows everyone one to fit together, be together, side by side. Various low volume prints and solids in the back ground make the rings pop. Like the Olympic rings, I feel it represents everyone from everywhere coming together. I think that is hopeful. I loved using the low volume fabrics for the Mystery QAL by Kim and I didn't get it finished before the PQ 10.1 star

And the last label goes to.......Ugly Christmas Sweater Mini quilt

Ugly Christmas Sweater mini  pattern by Lorna from Sew Fresh Quilts 27x 27 scrappy quilt   My local modern quilt guild had an ugly christmas sweater holiday party. I did not nor do I want to own any actual sweater so I came up with using Lorna's sweater blocks on a faux knit tree skirt. I stapled garland and added felt mittens to go with the blocks.  oh and faux washi taped them on. haha What I discovered? it is hard even if you try to pick ugly colors and combo fabrics...Lorna's pattern is just so darn cute.  You can find more of her patterns  HERE Sadly this is horrible pick but you can see the fun tree skirt top and the 4 way tie winners of the ugly contest. After the contest I dismantled my tree skirt and made another sweater so I could make a mini and finish AND use my last label.  Caution Ugly Sweater quilt ahead...haha and lastly..... Went to visit my sister for Christmas. Got there just in time to help with a m

The way to use the last two 2018 quilt labels....is scrappy

I should have been making more holiday presents or finishing ufo or phd projects but.........no.  I got distracted by an overflowing bag of neutral scraps and thought...hm I have time to make something and use up some of these scraps before the end of the year don't I? :)   I gallon zip lock bag full of bits Sew similar pieces together to make strips   Cut up a bunch of scrap batting too but forgot to take a pic of the stack of 30 pieces I was able to cut out of batting bits from other quilts. Decided on a red accent strip to try to make this scrap quilt a little more modern.  Way more dark strips than light in this one. I am sure I will use the low volume up in other projects I have in my head right now.  and the big reveal....... "Electric Slide" a scrap quilt approx. 53 x 63 scrap strips and scrap batting QAYG method with accent sashing  glue baste method I think the red accent fabric and placing all the strip squa

I wanted to spend a little time reflecting on my past year. I really feel like I was able to make a lot of things and at other times the year seemed to fly and I feel like I did not accomplish all I wanted to. For the linky party hosted by Cheryl @  Meadow mist designs , I decided to list my most viewed top five.  1. Under the Rug (a scrap quilt)  HERE 2. Quick Curve Ruler class finish quilt  HERE 3. "That's Modern" texture quilt challenge piece  HERE 4. Old red barn block makeover  HERE 5. A community project called #love of everyday things  HERE   2 quilts were made by community on Nat'l Quilting day and then donated to the Child Advocacy Center of Lincoln So that is my top five viewed blog posts. I hope you visit the other bloggers who are posting their "Best of" posts from 2018. They can be found by clicking Meadow mists designs at the top of this post.

Hey There Foxy!

Image
I recently purchased this super cute Fox pattern from my friend  Lorna @SewFreshQuilts  because I thought it would make a great kids quilt. Who would not be cheered by a little red fox?  Lorna has many patterns and they are so fun I know you will want to try one. *note: she did not pay me to praise her quilts they are just that fun! I wanted to snap some pics out on the park trail because we really do have a fox that frequents our neighborhood.  This guy is part of my year end sewing. I made a few gifts but I didn't want to forget about making a couple quilts for sick kids in need of comfort at my area hospitals. I sew from time to time for a local chapter of  Lincoln Quilts for Kids . I am sure there is a chapter near you too if you would like to contribute your time. The group usually has kits made up all ready to sew so all you need is your machine, supplies and batting to complete a small quilt.  Earlier this year, the QFKs group here did some fun

QAL's can push you to a finish

Earlier this year Suzy over at  Suzy Quilts  hosted a sew along using her Modern Fans pattern.  She not only hosted a great sew along but she was giving away a Bernina Sewing machine at the end. Well ....I have a friend who would like a new machine so I pressured her into joining the sew along with me. We did not win but we each made really super cool quilts.  See my friend Jennifer's quilt  @Jenniferunderthejunipertree blog My monster Modern Fans black and white beauty is called "A Star is Born". I played with the color layout (see below shots) to come up with the secondary star shape in the dark colors in my quilt.  Plus I used this fun face fabric see below. 85" x 85" All fabric was found in my stash (and there is lots more where that came from) I machine stitched the binding on and rounded the corners. I should have rounded them more but this was a nice easy curve.  I used one extra block on the back for the label.  Because of
