Notan - a Bee group quilt

Image
When I was Queen of the Bee I chose a theme based on notan. I was not sure how the group would interpret the idea but I also had a piece of fabric called "opposite" by Marsha Derse that I thought might help.  The fabrics I gave was various blacks and kona snow. There is a tiny bit of purple and some of the opposite fabric line. Each block was so different. I finally pieced them together with the background that I wanted to be opposite too. not working..... much better I think clear thread, straight line quilting

"From the Cutting Room Floor II - Edit"  42" w x 34" h local quilt guild Oh Scrap Challenge entry Earlier in the year our lcq had a scrap swap. We did it musical chair style sort of. I was MC for a while then jumped in to grab some scraps. Well I ended with a few more of my own scraps back and not enough of new to me scraps. So last friday we had a small reception and enjoyed see...

Earlier this year Suzy over at  Suzy Quilts  hosted a sew along using her Modern Fans pattern.  She not only hosted a great sew along but she was giving away a Bernina Sewing machine at the end. Well ....I have a friend who would like a new machine so I pressured her into joining the sew along with me. We did not win but we each made really super cool quilts.  See my friend Jennifer's quilt  @Jenniferunderthejunipertree blog My monster Modern Fans black and white beauty is called "A Star is Born". I played with the color layout (see below shots) to come up with the secondary star shape in the dark colors in my quilt.  Plus I used this fun face fabric see below. 85" x 85" All fabric was found in my stash (and there is lots more where that came from) I machine stitched the binding on and rounded the corners. I should have rounded them more but this was a nice easy curve.  I used one extra block on the back for the label....
