Under the Rug - a scrappy finish!

Under the Rug - A scrappy strings challenge "Under the Rug" approx 52" x 64" String scraps Batting scraps cut into various sizes Batting foundation pieced  One of my local quilt guilds had a challenge to do a modern string quilt. I admit I have several different style of string based quilts going on already and didn't want to start something new. I decided to use a stack of left over strings from my  Steppin in time (courthouse steps quilt) .  Those and some leftover black and white prints plus the addition of the center black and white wavy stripe helped make this rug like quilt.   This is what I have left. It started out a huge neatly folded pile. I think of the color stack there is only 1 or 2 full width strings left. I had about 45 to start. Progress in my scrap pile!! I was finally able to take some time making some photos happen. This was a huge pile of debris branches the park and piled up in the culvert. It sort...

Happy New Year!   There is always so much planning and resolution making going on this time of year. I decided to join a couple challenges that split up some of the things I want to accomplish into monthly installments.  I think with that kind of a set up there will be less  "More" accomplishments and that will keep the good vibes going.  First up is a friend of mine doing an organizational challenge. Steph Jacobson is heading up the   #organizedsewingspace2017 .  I was sure I did not need to do this challenge and then...........I realized that what I have on my shelves and stashed in corners has been around for a while and not getting much use. Just before Christmas I opened a bag and found that receipt from 1997 for these two pieces of fleece (which are now a warm fuzzy blanket) HERE  and soon realized I have a lot more issues than I thought.  My intention still was to do this on my own and I started to look at the scrap bags on the f...

Friday Finish -Scraps Win!

Scraps Scraps and more Scraps! They never end. I used scrap fabric, scrap bits of batting, scrap bits of leftover binding.  Does my scrap pile look smaller....um, No!  :) Still this finish makes me happy.  I am calling this one "Happiness". It measures in at 53" x 63".   I did the QAYG string method and then glue basted the blocks together and put the binding on. So simple and fun.  I started these blocks as part of a glue-baste technique demo at two of my guilds. I love how simple it is but truly effective. I love how you quilt it and the backing is done the front is done ....you're done! Very satisfying way to make a quilt quickly.  This shed is on my walking path and I finally stopped and as if I could use it for a quilt sometime and this quilt was perfect.  Can you tell I loved taking pictures there? This little quilt is probably going to be donated soon since the temps at night are dropping here. The backing was 3 p...
