Sew Sunshine

Scraps Scraps and more Scraps! They never end. I used scrap fabric, scrap bits of batting, scrap bits of leftover binding.  Does my scrap pile look smaller....um, No!  :) Still this finish makes me happy.  I am calling this one "Happiness". It measures in at 53" x 63".   I did the QAYG string method and then glue basted the blocks together and put the binding on. So simple and fun.  I started these blocks as part of a glue-baste technique demo at two of my guilds. I love how simple it is but truly effective. I love how you quilt it and the backing is done the front is done ....you're done! Very satisfying way to make a quilt quickly.  This shed is on my walking path and I finally stopped and as if I could use it for a quilt sometime and this quilt was perfect.  Can you tell I loved taking pictures there? Dapple - a Floating Square Score 43" x 43"   Spiral quilting with Aurifil thread.   Recently we had a sew day at the museum working on improv. We were lucky enough to have Sherri Lynn Wood stop by on her cross country book tour and give a talk. We were really inspired by her book and wanted to try one of the scores.  You can read more about her visit HERE.   It was exciting to be a little part in having her visit us. My piece took on a life of it's own when the flower print kept falling off the shelf. A little bit of improv in my life lately! This is my finish for my guild challenge. A few months ago our new guild decided to try a challenge. We are in the process of making a guild banner and the "grunge" fabric used in the banner were thrown in a bag and we each picked two and had to make something. My color was blue green, and green blue...really pretty but together??  I thought about it for a few months. I kept thinking sea glass and water and then a friend posted an old picture of her and her husband looking at tide pools and I started piecing fabrics together. We could add in one neutral so I added in a wet sand color. No tide pools in this city but that didn't stop me from searching out some water. :)  Wavy line quilting over all helped with the watery look.
