Quilts for Kids reproduction fabric

Image
I recently stopped in at the Quilts for Kids sew group to drop off some quilts I had ready to donate. On the table was a stack of reproduction 30's style fabrics. If you follow me you know that is not really my style but I knew that stack had been in the to do pile there for a while. I decided why not. I had two color groups and decided whatever I did I was going to use up every scrap in the quilts themselves.  My mom had given me long ago the Nancy Zieman plastic template for various sizes of tumbler. I remembered you cut a strip of the fabric then turn template to cut the angles. Perfect if you want to use up every inch!! For the pastels I picked the yellow and for the darker colors the blue green. I think they turned out pretty good.  I used whatever cuts I had left over to make the back wide enough. They each finished 45" x 54" so hope they can go to an older toddler maybe.  This is the first sewing and completing I have done in a long time. Still nursing back problem

Sew Thinky Linky and Progress

Sew Thinky Thursday again! Emily has a new question. Don't forget to check out her blog  Mommy's Nap Time  to see her adventures at Quiltcon!!! Here's our question for this week: Tell us about your sewing friends. Have your fabric tastes changed by having friends who like to sew? Do you like the same things or are you completely opposite? I think my fabric taste changes just about every day. I have favorites and if I pile all my fabric in one place I would see that I have way more of some colors than another but I feel like a seed in a giant seed pod. I have been starting to stretch and grow in several directions. I have always liked crafty things and dabbling in this and that. I am sure you have heard the saying "jack of all trades but master of none" ...that is me.  I love being around all the new blogging friends since I started my blog. I feel everyday is a learning experience.  I see a quilt-a-long and I want to do that but before the minut

Emotional Sewing

Have you ever had a project that started out one way and then just took off on an adventure all its own?  I have to say this has never happened to me in quilting until this week.  Lots of things are going on in my personal life right now.  My sisters and brothers are getting ready to sell the household belongings from my Mothers house.  Not all is going well and there have been many unhappy moments.  Long story short...I was happy that the new Project Quilting project this week is My Favorite Color.  Happy thoughts indeed! Until.....digging through my stash I see my favorite  color (one of that is) -  teal and see I already have a quilt all cut out and ready to sew in this color way.  That's okay I have lots more favorite colors...um black? Well working on a project right now in black and white etc...  No problem.  I do love me some coral/orange....but did a challenge last year in that color.  Okay I think that navy and white is very dramatic but....the very last quilt I worked
