Finish Friday - Vintage Star

Image
Windy day here but tried to get a few snaps of this Vintage Star quilt because it is heading to  LIncoln Quilts for KIds  tomorrow.   This is the second time I made this star. I love the giant half square triangles it takes to make this quilt. Virtually no waste except for squaring up blocks. Simple tutorial can be found by Amy Smart for  We All Sew .  My bleeding heart survived the freeze last week and is back bold and big as ever.  This is the first quilt I tried to free motion quilt on with my new Babylock Jane industrial machine. It was so much fun and I felt I had so much more control with the extra harp space I now have. I can't wait to experiment more.  Linking up with  Crazy Mom Quilts Finish Friday also linking up to  this months challenge theme is FINE. I am linking this piece because of my first time free motioning on my new Baby Lock Jane. I did a FINE job and hope to do so much better in the future.

WIP - a bit slow this week + (Frixion info)

Since my turn on the New Bloggers Blog Hop tour sponsored by Beth at Plum and June HERE  , I wanted to update you on some info going around on the use of the Frixion pen I like so much.  Lee at  Freshly Pieced  (click link for info)  did some testing along with a couple links by some other gals in her post.  I did a bit of my own testing and found the red pen I have been using on white and snow kona to work just great. Ironed off, washed and frozen and no shadows or lines coming back. Not sure what the reasons for the inconsistency we are seeing but I felt you needed more info before you tried them or not.  On to WIP for me.  Working on the Sew kind of Wonderful Medallion blocks. Got all the blocks (16) together but thinking I might add the diamond to the corners. ?? The diamonds Jenny @Sewkindofwonderful added look like this:  HERE Still working on Retro Rubies quilt. I want to get it sandwiched today and start on the quilting...whatever that may be.  And putting

Le Challenge #3 = Maritime

Here is my entry for  Le Challenge  Challenge 3 - Maritime: "Regatta" 17" x 17"   Paper pieced center design is the Sunshine block from  Compass Collection from Quilting on the Square I added the 1/2 " squares in the  border to represent numerous water events Machine quilted with YLI clear thread I think it looks very like a festive boat race!  I tried really hard to do a continuous quilting design because I didn't want to stop and start so much. (very hard to quilt clear on white background as is...if you know what I mean) There is still time for you to link up your idea of Maritime.  Come join in the fun.

Le Challenge #2 - Wings

Image
I have to say this was an interesting challenge this month.  "Wings" hmmm??   I had some things I wanted to try but was not sure that I could work it into a challenge.  Then I saw  Geta's quilting studio tutorials   on Shadow Trapunto. I just had to try it.    Lots of cutting, even for my simple design. I would recommend the new embroidery scissors I won at my quilt guild the other night, however, I do not recommend using it on this project while on the phone. I snipped a thread a little too close and made a small hole in the organza. I covered it pretty well later but still!! :) Not sure if you can guess from that left over batting?? I wanted to use a multi-color fabric to represent the butterfly wings.  This ended up being really hard to photograph so I hope you can see the end result.    "Reverberate"   18" x 18" Holographic organza makes the shadow over the trapunto cut pattern of circling butterflies. Weekend projects

I have a finish! I made it home last night from my sister's house and got to work on finishing this quilt I wanted to enter into a challenge.  This is the  Modern BOM 2 #1 block . I have 4 blocks remaining ready to sew into something but this quilt has the two solid color backgrounds of tarragon and navy kona. I think it turned out very well and I added some spiral quilting.  "Box out" Of course it is overcast today but the quilting does show up. I want to enter it in the  Le challenge #1  today. :) ~~~~~~~~~ I also finished the hand sewing on my curve ruler table runner and scrap mug rugs that coordinate.  I love the big print and it is on the back of the table runner too so it is reversible if desired.  So happy with the finishes so far this month!!
