Sew Sunshine

Project Quilting 11.5  is Give it Away! I  dug out the super easy and modern go to tutorial from  Cluck Cluck Sew Stack and Whack blocks  Click on the link for how to.  I cut out 42 squares and then went to town. You can do several blocks at a time so this goes very quickly.  The block size I chose makes my quilt finish at about 42 x 48 All fabric was in my stash and have already been made into other quilts.  I finished with some organic crossed lines which added to the window look of the blocks.  My quilt will be going to Quilts for Kids Lincoln chapter which covers Lincoln Omaha and Grand Island and any other smaller areas that need them.  linking up to PQ 11.5 at Persimon Dreams

I recently purchased this super cute Fox pattern from my friend  Lorna @SewFreshQuilts  because I thought it would make a great kids quilt. Who would not be cheered by a little red fox?  Lorna has many patterns and they are so fun I know you will want to try one. *note: she did not pay me to praise her quilts they are just that fun! I wanted to snap some pics out on the park trail because we really do have a fox that frequents our neighborhood.  This guy is part of my year end sewing. I made a few gifts but I didn't want to forget about making a couple quilts for sick kids in need of comfort at my area hospitals. I sew from time to time for a local chapter of  Lincoln Quilts for Kids . I am sure there is a chapter near you too if you would like to contribute your time. The group usually has kits made up all ready to sew so all you need is your machine, supplies and batting to complete a small quilt.  Earlier this year, the QFKs group here did some fun

I was able to take some time since last months sew day for Quilts for Kids and get these beauties put together and quilted.  On our sew day in June several ladies brought squares to swap with some of mine to make the 3 scrappy quilts on the left. We used  Allisons Tutorial: Easy stack cut and sew blocks  over at Cluck Cluck Sew.  These 6 plus the other two I previously made this year  HERE  and  HERE  make 8!  Happy 8th Birthday Lincoln Quilts for kids group!!! Here are some of the blocks we made during the day.  I went to visit my sister one day and she helped me prepare for the sew day. We cut enough blocks for several quilts.  You can see how fun the blocks are when they are coordinated or when they are scrappy! And they go together fast. After finishing the community quilts last week I suddenly have the ability to work on some of my own projects.  First up trying to use up some of the fabrics I have out of my stash.  The tulip quilts are from a recently viewed Jenny Doan video. The tulip block uses some 5" charm packs and I happened to have one that is not exactly my style. So...."little house on the prairie" charms went into those. The rest is just scraps and bits that were big enough to fill in.  Since my style is a bit more modern I wanted to see if I could successfully mix those tiny calico prints with some little more contemporary fabrics.  What do you think?
