WIP Wed = Curve it up

Image
Last night at a guild meeting I gave a demo on using the Quick Curve Ruler by Jenny and Helen @ SewKindofWonderul . I don't have many rulers but I purchased this one to do a sewalong that Jenny was doing on her blog. I quickly fell in love with the easy piecing. I was sewing curves and they were turning out every time.  No I am no affiliated with them at all but the ruler really makes curve piecing so sew easy! Some of samples from the class. I really love the stacked wave piece and I think that has lots of possibilities. There is my finished Abacus quilt that I will blog about for my Lovely year of finishes so far this year! The demo was fun and a few actually sat down and tried piecing it and all were successful! :) One new member, won the QCR giveaway. She was afraid of curves but no more...... Linking up with WIP Wed over at Freshly Pieced and Lorna at Sew Fresh Quilts There is still time to vote for the Sunrise /Sunset challenge at Persimon Dream...

Flowering Lonestar test and Giveaway!

I am so excited to share with you the pattern I tested, "Flowering Lonestar" a new pattern by Melissa at SewBitterSweet Designs . I was so excited to be able to test this pattern for her.  This pattern goes together really quickly and is one of two patterns Melissa is launching today!!! Yes there are Y seams and Melissa helps you through. If you need more help in this area I found that the youtube video by Edyta Sitar HERE  will help you with some visuals. I knew I wanted to make a more masculine version of the lonestar. I used some FQ's from my stash and some lovely Basic Gray Grunge (my favorite). I think the colors worked well and for one last touch I made the background blocks on the side another color. I think it looks perfect for a baby boy! I did the quilting with Aurifil 50# weight color 5011 which blended with the prints nicely and highlighted the lighter side.  Spiral quilting with my walking foot to finish it off.  You can...

Few issues along the way but now going to piece a back and get this baby quilted. Today...or tomorrow...or soon!!!!   I decided to go 5 x 7 rows and then add the border. I think it will be a pretty good size. I am going to use more fat quarters for the back I think. The mix of prints and colors worked pretty well overall. Indoor pic..sorry!
