WIP is a finished ufo

Image
This is from another BOM last year at SewCanSheSewcialities. I loved the star in a star in a star idea and kept going until it measured about 48" square.  I actually finished it last night but it was too dark to get any photos. I was just so motivated to get another UFO off the pile.   I love the backing fabric almost as much.  Linking up with WIP Wed @  Freshly Pieced and with Lorna @  Let's Bee Social - Sew Fresh Quilts and day 6/31 of blog writing  Challenge and  HERE

WIP -Flimsy, scraps and scrappy!

Image
I could not resist from running out and taking a photo with these mums! They are volunteer mums too. That is a tomato plant next to them. ha This was supposed to be my vegetable garden space but when my husband and I both ended up with health issues this year the garden went on the wayside. Someone was thinking of me I guess.  This is a top that I put together from one of the kits for the organization Quilts for Kids. Our local chapter covers most of our state and some surrounding ones too and we make quilts for sick kids in the hospitals.  This X and O quilt was so fun to make. I hope to get it quilted up but heard rain was in the forecast so had to get a photo in now!   When you make these little blocks you end up with tons of little triangles but this time I thought ahead and stitched them together right away.        94 half-square triangles anyone??? I have to trim them yet but I will be sure to make something scrappy with them. S...

WIP - swap done in time

Image
Did some work on my Swap blocks for a local quilt shop.  I chose two bundles and that makes 4 blocks each bundle. I did the first bundle a while ago.  The whole group needed to be done by this Saturday so I had to make an effort to get going. I just love these blocks. The pattern is Exhibit by Eye Candy Quilts. Gotta love the fabrics!!!  Done, pressed, starched and squared and off to the swap. Can't wait to see what I get in return.  Linking up with WIP WED at Freshly Pieced  HERE and  Let's Bee Social HERE

WIP wed d9p

Image
Up on the wall today I have been working on some 9 patch blocks to make a d9p. I am trying to follow the 4-5 layout that Kristy Daum describes in her 'modernized' version of this quilt.  You can see her layout idea HERE. I really like how the 9 patches look so it will be hard to cut them up but it will be fun to see what I end up with.  I am trying to mix up some of the neutral and low volume pieces I have for the 5 patch and stick to the MQG colors they picked for their charity quilt for 2016 in the 4 patch bright spots. I think this will be fun!   At one of my local quilt guilds, I was involved in a design a 'modern' quilt that would be appropriate for children. We have a local organization here called Lincoln Quilts for Kids that give you all the parts and pieces of the quilt but for the thread and batting. You make the kit up and then give it back so it can go to the local hospitals for sick children.  Our guild did a great job with the designs. Many ...

WIP Wed - finish

Image
I finished this little "Streak of Sunshine" quilt for our local chapter of Lincoln Quilts for Kids  charity that gives quilts to kids in local hospitals.  I usually do bright but I had these soft cute peace sign prints in pink and green so went for it. Not great photos but I had to snap these before I gave it away. Hopefully it is on its way to help comfort a sick child.  Linking up to WIP Wed with Lee @Freshly Pieced and Let's Bee social with Lorna @ SewFreshQuilts

SuperNova Friendship swap - Finish ALYoF

Image
I can't help it ...this quilt makes me smile!  My swap partner Jenn  Jennifer under the Juniper Tree  (her post on her version is up so go check it out) and I finished our quilts. We made them big and bright and scrappy and they are finished. Did I say that already??? Both of us finished! Okay, enough. The swap was the brainchild of Stephanie from  Late Night Quilter and Sandra from One Million Stitches . The challenge swap ends Feb 14 and Lee Heinrich herself from Freshly PIeced and the designer of the SuperNova  will be the judge. Now more pics:    There is a little up close view of the straight line grid quilting using aurifil in 2600 again! Lastly I leave you with this picture (dig the sun going down sprinkling light on the blocks!!!) of my SuperNova with a factory in the back ground and little note from the  NASA website as to  "What is a SuperNova"? A supernova is the explosion of a star. It i...
