WIP - Elegant Curves

Image
I was faced with a challenge last week that I had no spare time for. Even though I would not get it done for the deadline of the challenge I wanted to complete this table runner anyway. I will be showing a demo on the Quick Curve ruler next week and wanted one simple piece from the book  One Wonderful Curve  by sewkindofwonderful.   I changed up the layout and block number to accommodate my fabric and color choices to go with.  Will I always love grunge fabric? I think so.....  One of my goals this year for myself was to try more dense quilting that is not matchstick.  I had fun with this but I chose to backstitch instead of bury my threads and I should have not done that.  I have a knot button on my machine but still have to bury the ends so I am curious to what most of you do? For fun I took this on my front door. I love how the soft light shines through.  Linking up with WIP Wed @  Freshly pieced  and  Let...

WIP Wed -Some progress

Image
This is my layout of the Friendship Supernova Swap blocks. I am not sure I have it right or if I like my scrappy border so I am letting is stew a bit. It might be better from a better camera angle but it is too too cold outside if you catch my drift? :) Half the blocks were made by my now friend Jennifer under the Juniper tree linking up with WIP Wed at Freshly Pieced HERE and Let's bee social with Lorna HERE

WIP - End of Summer

Image
The weather lately means it is the end of summer. I still think my new quilt block quilt is pretty sizzling hot!  I love this block and how it came together. So far I added the corner stones and surrounding half stones. I really don't think I want a border on this but will use the orange or yellow for binding maybe. Still deciding. No idea how I am going to quilt around those jagged blocks yet either. Any ideas?  I have the back pieced and should try to get to it yet this week. WIP Wed -where does time go?

Image
I dug through my stash and found some pieces that sort of go together with my new block. I really like how they came together. Now I am deciding if I should piece in a cornerstone or not. hmm??? Time seems to be flying by and not much sewing happening.  So keep on keepin' on. ;) Linking up with WIP Wed with Lee @ Freshly Pieced and Let's Bee Social with Lorna @ SewFreshQuilts Let's BEE social

WIP catch up and fun!

Image
First up, a totally fun block I was dying to try out.  I love love love this. I have been cleaning out (more purging going on) some of my magazines that I have inherited lately. My guild is having a library book sale and magazine drive to raise money for new books.  I have been cleaning out their library and my stacks of magazines. I was marking things I wanted to try. Found this block and no matter that my design wall is 3 WIP pieces deep....I had to try this one.  FUN! Not sure what I am going to do with it yet and I am using some stash fabrics again for my PURGE Challenge so winner winner chicken dinner! :)   Next, isn't it obvious that I worked so fast to catch up on my leader and ender quilt project that my photo is blurry? That is my story and I am sticking to it plus the fact that I had to stand on a rolling chair to get out of the overhead light since it was taken around 6 a.m.   ha This is my shoebox project of trying to use up a...

WIP and a Winner!

Image
My current work in progress is kind of slow going. I started it a few days ago but it is county fair here so I have not had much time to work on it.  I mentioned last week that I was making kits for part of my "purge" progress of my stash. I had one that in this quilt that was not quite enough fabric for the square I needed so I pieced it. I am guessing it is pretty hard to see and even less when I get it quilted. So I didn't give this kit but made it up myself. The kits I am referring to are "Quilts for Kids" kits. They have a booth at the fair where they are sewing quilts and talking about where these quilts go in our area. Most of the quilts go to our local hospitals for sick children.  Such a good cause. Anyway, this is my current top all from stash fabrics and scraps. June June June and a goal

Image
It's June and I am afraid that it is going to fly by.  You know that song "June is bustin' out all over" from Carousel? Well that is what it feels like around here. The garden is growing. The vegetable patch was looking pretty good but the high winds and rain flattened many of my plants last night. The little bit of hail didn't help either. The spring cleaning should be well under way...mine stalled out yesterday when I tried to get the hard water ring out of the toilet ( I did get it done but not much else on the cleaning front).  However, progress was made on my current WIP on the DYO sampler HERE  @ SewMamaSew designed by Sarah from Sarah Quilts blog. My second section is completed .   I used another Craftsy BOM (the one in the bottom left) and added in bits of the scraps from several quilts. I love using up the scraps that I kept (for this insane reason I guess) of the bits off of the backings and left over block parts.  The giant Bear Paw is a bl...

WIP on DYO sampler for summer SMS-along

Image
....And that is saying something! :P I have to let you all know I am just glad to be saying or showing anything at all. I have been so blah lately. Too many things going on and not enough going right or what have you. I hope this is the start of something good!! I have wanted to do the DYO Sampler quilt posted by Sarah Schraw @Sarahquilts to SewMamaSew Summer sew along HERE . I used Sarah's layout because I already had some orphan blocks in mind and they fit into a couple of her size places. I also dug into my scraps and found strips and bits to piece together for more scrap blocks that fit pretty easy. It is hectic and I like it. I am just so (sew) happy to get through some scraps and use up these orphans. Super old orphan - school house block. I found it in an old sewing box I had and thought I could make it work in with my others. I don't even think they are cotton fabrics in that block???  I am pretty sure, if memory serves, that my mom was trying ...

WIP cuttings

Image
Everyone is doing the Triangle! It's raining triangles over at The Sassy Quilter HERE . I dug into that stash of fabric and just started cutting bits of each and came up with 190 triangles pretty quickly. I am going to do some layout work on these to see what I need to cut more of. I think this will be a fun playtime project. I hope to play off some of the built in geometrics. WIP Wed- Friendship star

Image
Friendship Star March BOM block progress *note..it was so windy I had to find an alcove and tape the flimsy down!   Here is my Friendship Star quilt top that I have been working on for the Classic Block challenge at SewCanShe blog HERE The idea is to make the monthly block and post it to the group on FB. I decided this one was so fun so I made a whole top from my stash! Anyone can join in and we are just now voting on the April block.  I am linking up with WIP Wednesdays at Freshly Pieced  HERE and Let's Bee Social over at SewFresh Quilts HERE   and Fabric Frenzy Friday HERE

WIP Wed Polka Dot Bikini update

Image
WIP Wed already. I was such a slug over the weekend and now the week is flying. Making some progress anyway so linking up with Freshly Pieced WIP Wed HERE   Two corner stones for the bottom went together really well.  Two cornerstones attached to the first two rows ...done!!! I am so happy I figured out what I was doing wrong and have made some progress. I have one seam I am not happy about how it lined up in one spot but I am making progress. I love the KF fabrics around the outside in this scrappy way. This is progress for the Polka Dot Bikini QAL I am doing over at Fabrics and Flowers HERE . Now if I can just make some progress on my hormone balance I would be really happy! :) Also linking up with Let's BEE Social  HERE

WIP Wed- Rolling through the stash

Image
Time for Wed WIP check-in! I dug out this stack of MM fabric called Flight Pattern that I won last year. I made my great niece a cute craft travel bag out of some of the prints   Thought it was time to get something made out of the rest.  Mostly light fabrics and a few have bolder prints. I chose the tumbler block because I wanted to make one of those again.   The pack of fabric came with 4 solids too. I will just say this Michael Miller fabric is just a dream to sew and press. The colors are really vibrant together. This quilt just makes me smile when I watch it come together.  Linking up with  HERE   and Let's Bee Social HERE
