Ice Cream mash-up.  I have an ice cream quilt block and a panel merge to make a cute pastel baby blanket. This panel was really cute. Extra panel bits on the back! Super fun and quick to make. So long ago and so far away.......I made this quilt back in May I believe. I wanted something fun and quick and I mainly wanted to use up some of my fabrics. I used a FQ of this super cute telephone fabric. I attempted to fussy cut the bits and most of them worked but not all. Still I like it. The telephone was key because I had other telephone fabric to use on the back.  ...in two shades even. I love it! I was on a mission to use all the scraps from the front so just stuck them in the back.  "Telephone Game" I love these colors together. I forgot how big this is but pretty sure a large throw size. Since the time of making this quilt. I did work on a few for the county fair out of my stash but then I got started making kids quilts with a group of ladies at my church.  I have not posted all summer and fall it seems but I have made over 50 kids quilts, receiving blankets  and contributed to making over a 100 bedrolls from unwanted textiles for the homeless.  I will post a smatt

Scrappy Diamond was in the works for a while.  I started cutting up squares from my bigger (and getting tired of using the same fabric) stash pieces. I had an abundance of low volume fabrics too so it was easy to plop them together and just make HSTs.  This layout is super fun to make by the way. 64 x 80" approx. I used up a bunch of the HSTs on the back and it worked great to piece the back with them! This quilt was finished earlier this summer for the book release by Kelly Young.  It's the Midnight Mystery qal quilt by  Meadow Mist designs  back in 2015.  I had the top and some of the fabrics tucked away ready to sew up a back. But I put it away. Here is the top from Jan of 2016. It was a perfect UFO to finish using Kelly Young's new book  Perfectly Pieced Quilt Backs .  I used 2 pieces of fabric that matched up and found another in my stash by the same designer. I had a half of a block so might as well use it up. I think it turned out pretty good and looks intentional which is the beauty of the book ideas for piecing backs.  I am so happy to have finished an old UFO. New Book by Kelly Young - Perfectly Pieced Quilt Backs I am so happy to read and review and use this book to work on my stash. Kelly has great tips and simple layouts to help you use your scraps up in a way to work with the front of your quilts. By using her tips you can use up leftover blocks and bits from the quilt you are making and you are not left with a huge scrap pile.  If you have been following me at all but especially this year I have made it a mission to use my stash.  Part of that mission was emptying out a couple of huge bags of scraps.  HERE  is an example of some of the scraps I used up. In Kelly's book there are 30 different quilt backs ideas. 15 using leftover scrappy bits and 15 more from yardage. Her book  features  great full quilt finishing instructions and each back has instruction for 3 sizes given.  Not only do you get all that help but she has also included 18 lap sized quilt patterns for downloading.  Wow, so much right here in one place to help you sew be

I recently dug in my closet and found a box of 5" flannel squares I had cut out a few years ago. I made a simple tie quilt with them and thought it was time to use up the rest of the box. (did not succeed but every bit helps) Most of these were from old flannel shirts of my husbands.  I found a soft layer of fleecy blanket left over from a previous denim quilt. I had an old blanket that had two soft layers perfect for the inside of a simple flannel quilt like this. I was however short about 6" so I frankensteined some small pieces of batting onto the edge. I had no idea if it would work but I tied this and washed it and everything is fine! Simple ties in each square held it together just right.  Another recycle/upcycle project completed.  The trouble with digging in a craft closet, well any closet really is you never know what you will find.
