WIP is a finished ufo

Image
This is from another BOM last year at SewCanSheSewcialities. I loved the star in a star in a star idea and kept going until it measured about 48" square.  I actually finished it last night but it was too dark to get any photos. I was just so motivated to get another UFO off the pile.   I love the backing fabric almost as much.  Linking up with WIP Wed @  Freshly Pieced and with Lorna @  Let's Bee Social - Sew Fresh Quilts and day 6/31 of blog writing  Challenge and  HERE

Bye bye boat blocks

Image
So happy to finish up these boat blocks. I originally made 4 - 24" blocks back with SewCanShe Sewcialities  was doing a BOM. I  have to say it makes for a quick baby quilt finish once you have the 24" boat done.  Now it is time to work on something different for a bit.  Day 4/31 days of blog writing

Channeling Victoria Findlay Wolfe

Image
So many of you quilty people have probably  read the C and T publishing post where you can ask questions about their authors. If you are lucky your question will be answered. Well, Jane Combs asked How does Victoria Findlay Wolfe do it all? Victoria answered with how her days usually go.  read article here Many of my friends, and myself,  took away from this post that we are totally and unforgivably lazy do nothings!  Well..... that might be a little over dramatic! I need to brutishly look at how I spend my days. ha First off....not to worry...some of Victoria's work she has help with.  Well, me too, if I play my cards right.  Since today is Saturday I figured I could channel a little VFW today and see what happens.  The biggest help I have it is to be left alone bright and early to get organized. No problem. Hubby gets up between 5 and 6 a.m. and generally leaves around 7 for work.  I got up and took my meds giving me 30 minutes to do something before I have to have a shot of

A Day late but ALYoF for Sept is the plan!

Image
A day late to finish my goal for August ALYoF but it is finished now none the less.  It took me all month to work up the strength (not felt the best) to tackle doing a swirl FMQing design of some sort on this quilt. I figured since it was a scrap stash quilt why not? Many hours of breaking thread and neck ache but it is not too bad for my first time. You can really see all of the quilting on the red part on the back. The swirls are not so bad but the traveling part I rarely met up with an already quilted line. I think it is because I can not see that great. I have to quilt without my glasses so I can get close but I can't see around the darning foot. I need more practice no doubt about it! A finish a day late. Oh well.   54" x 60" approx. Scrappy stash fabrics and boat block from the SewCanShe BOM from July. Onward to a new month and a new project to finish. For September I am going to try to tackle the backing and quilting of the Mod Olive Quilt I did i

SuperNova Friendship and BOM

Image
Time for the SuperNova Friendship block swap hosted by Stephanie and Sandra here . My new friend Jen from  Jenniferunderthejunipertree and I met up at the local fabric store and swapped our blocks. This is so funny that each time we tend to do something similar with our blocks. We both put contrasting color for this months block in the same place. So cool.  I think we were meant to be friends and not just because of that! Mine is the yellow/gold/purple and Jens is the  pink an chartreuse. This months topic for the swap is about childhood summer memories.  Jen and I shared some favorite summer time activities that we did when we were kids. Since we both lived in rural areas we have some similarities like making forts in the field or in the hay loft. We liked to play by ourselves or with siblings or cousins. Long lazy summers days stretched out before us with adventures to be had. Hop on over to Jen's blog to find out more about her summer memories. My cousin loved to act

WIP churn dash

Image
Tried my hand at a few small 6" churn dash blocks. I am hooked. They are so fun and cute to make.  I was just going to try a few blocks in all solids and then I decided this little 9 patch needed some print. I will now have to make more for the blocks I didn't use. Is it me or sometimes you just move from project to project making more projects??? Friendship Star March BOM block progress *note..it was so windy I had to find an alcove and tape the flimsy down!   Here is my Friendship Star quilt top that I have been working on for the Classic Block challenge at SewCanShe blog HERE The idea is to make the monthly block and post it to the group on FB. I decided this one was so fun so I made a whole top from my stash! WIP and a little Modern inspiration from Jacquie

Image
Busy week so far. I have once again started something without finishing the previous project. Not only that but I took a class this week too. :) WIP is a little ditty  and the main quilt star is the Friendship Block chosen this month over at  SewCanShe .  If you want to participate you still have time for this month so check it out.    This is a big block! 18" I wanted to practice HST's and thought bigger was better. Then after the ease of practice I decided to make a few more to surround this one. I used a tutorial from Sew Happy Geek HERE  and came up with this so far.   "Bring on Spring!" ~ Now to make it big enough for our quilt guild charity which is 45 x 55 min so I have some borders or thinking to do. Most exciting news is once again this is from my stash! Then time for a little class yesterday. Our quilt guild brought in Modern Quilt guru Jacquie Gering. I can easily say that if she is near your home you need to go take a class by he
