Like Riding a Bike?

....Or at least I hope it is? It has been over a month since I made a post. I have had so many things going on in my head and body and so ....well you know how it goes, right?  Well I have not been idle while away.  I am pulling up my "boot straps" and "getting back on the saddle" again.  Here is a Christmas gift I made that I am quite happy with. But wait, first there is my ongoing problem with Google chrome not letting me upload photos. If anyone has any ideas for me ( I log in and log out and log in and still it says it is unavailable)??? Okay, back to the good stuff.... Ta-da! My first sewing machine cover project. I sort of designed it myself and I made sure to put a pocket on the front. If any of you have little ones that like to come into your sewing room and turn on the knobs and pick up your scissors and seam ripper, then you can see why the pockets came about.  The pocket sort of blends in so if you don't need to use it for anything it s

Windy...and Like Rain

Yeah...two finishes this week! There is nothing like a finish to boost your spirits.  Linking up with  Crazy Mom Quilts Finish Friday "Like Rain" is my A Year of Lovely Finished for October. I am ahead of the game for a change. :) 4 - 24" blocks sewn together in a diamond shape. Love those big blocks, don't you? This is from Modern BOM 2 (for July...better late than never) by Sew Mama Sew  HERE . I stewed over this one and how to put it together and I ended up just loving it. I had so many odd shaped scraps that I just sewed them into the back to use some of them up and I think it looks like I did it on purpose...okay, let's go with that! This is a super easy block quilt that my local quilt group did as a day project. We all helped and were able to make 11 quilt tops for charity. Then I did two from my own fabrics and I took this top to quilt. Turned out really cute. It was so windy when I took the picture that it stuck to the fence...a b

Oh What a Weekend?

Whew...first off my little panic is over. Something caused the 'insert' picture function not to work here on blogger.  I am not the sharpest when it comes to computer stuff so this had me stumped. Miraculously today it works.  Two days of sweating for nothing....almost. (more about that later) Saturday I was invited to meet up with some of my local quilty gals to work on some blocks for the charity they picked.   The Child Advocacy Center in Lincoln NE .  Some of the girls came up with a simple block and because I can't sit and sew in a big time block (back issues) I worked at home off and on all week. For a few hours yesterday morning I went to join them and worked the ironing board for the sewers that came.   Scraps turned into: It reminded me so much of stained glass windows. I walked to the park and tried to take a pic with the sun behind. **still working on better pics.  I now have the back sewn up and will be sandwiching that up this week and getting i

A lovely year of finishes goal - April

Image
Time again to link up with  Fiber of all Sorts and Bittersweet Designs  "A year of lovely Finishes" project and set my goal(s). I really want to finish my greenish hexi project so I think that will be it.  I have some boarders on it now and I just have to decide if that is big enough or if I should put more hexis on it. hmmm?? I would like to finish this. I have already gotten out the two quick boy charity quilt tops I put together last month and sandwiched both and quilted both. Finished binding one last night and made the binding for the other. A friend of mine is going to a class on monday to learn how to bind and her mother needs something to practice on so she is taking my quilt and binding. I think it will be great for her and another finish for me! :)  VOTE if you can this week 4/5/13 Please! Linking up with Lee at   Freshly Pieced With a guest host today, Natalie from https://greenleafgoods.wordpress.com/   Okay today I am still trying to catch up from the weekend. :) I am working on my Modern Block of the Month 2 hosted by  Sew Mama Sew . These are 24 1/2" blocks so I am thinking quick and easy...and BIG. I like! Here is what I am playing with: Wow they are BIG. I made 6 because I figured that size would make quite a few charity quilts quickly. I then decided for quilting purposes maybe only 4 blocks would be the best for me and All....That...Negative....Space!!!! aughhhhhhhhhh (picture the kid from Home Alone) here is the option Alyssa has given:1 But there is also:2 and 3 and of course:4 I am playing around with using the two remaining of the six I made and mixing them with some navy blue grunge background and a few similar prints like in the tarragon (green) blocks. How would that be in style 3 with two green and two blue???

Me and Monique

Image
Me and my new friend Monique just hanging out at the cutting table today.  My lovely sewing friend, Kathy Morgan, made this adorably fun chicken pin-cushion for me.  She is so cute I almost can't do anything else around the house. A  few of my sewing gal pals got together last night and stayed up too late sewing and creating. I am having a  very slow moving day but Monique told me to get off my rear and do something constructive.  I thought I would work on a charity quilt because this year already seems to be flying by. I also got to thinking maybe it would be really fast and productive to make two charity quilts out of the same pattern and fabrics (well almost) and see if I could get two tops done today.  Well..... Two ....Two tops done!!!! Yeah me and a big Thank you to my little hen friend, Monique. Couldn't have done it with out you today. :) Now to think about the new Challenge over at  Project Quilting season 4 challenge 5 What to do, what t

Stuck but not stopped

Yesterday I finally made some progress on my Relay for Life auction quilt. I was a bit stuck. I had cut out 120 squares to finish off each Birdbath block and then join...however I did not like the fabric I had cut out. It was so blah. So I took a break.  I keep seeing +Pat Sloan talking about her UFO projects and how she is busting a move to get them done or get them out of her sewing room. I did  not have to look far to find a charity quilt top I had hanging on the rail in my dining room since October of last year. I just pulled out the backing and put the thing together and finished.  Yeah me! 1st charity quilt done for 2013.  Simple straight line quilting on the diagonal and then did a machine binding. (all the charity quilts I do require a machine stitched binding). Gosh, from this picture it almost looks like sewing machines but it is just a simple rail fence quilt. All scraps I had but it looks cute.  So after that break I came back to my BirdBath quilt and cut 120 new bl
