Patriotic Patchwork Pig


Last guild meeting I won a raffle prize and part of the prize was this pattern by Gingerbear called Patchwork Pig.  I just happened to have some donation fabric from my sewing group at church that has patriotic pigs on it.  So...why not piece this together. The blocks are big and easy to piece. I used losts of the donation fabrics including a red and blue vintage print.





It was pretty breezy out trying to take pictures.  I could not stop thinking ...when pigs fly....I digress


The blocks are quarter square triangles and hst mostly. 

 



I skipped the outside border because it was already pretty large. 

I think it turned out pretty cute. It will be donated soon.

Scrappy Corner bits and a Pieced Heart

First up, my scrappy corner bits quilt is done. I love how the different color solid square background adds interest to all the scrappy rainbow bits.  Up close of my happy ...um design element! can you tell what I did?  My pics today were either too sunny or too dark. Oh well, this quilt makes me happy.  All the colored triangle bits are left over (throw-away) binding cut offs.  40 x 46 inches approx.  diagonal straight line quilting through each block ...and one of my stash backings I have had for a while. Colors in it are perfect! So fun! Next up is a quilt I made for a graduating h.s. great niece. I have no idea what she will think. This is the "Piece and Love" quilt by The Cloth Parcel 70" x 81" I ordered the kit for this a while ago from Craftsy..when they 'were' Craftsy. I think the colors are fun and modern. P.Q 13.5 - Rhythm and Repetition Go Big...

Well this week for  Project Quilting 13.5  the theme is Rhythm and Repetition. I dug into my pattern/ruler pile and came up with "Mountain Hiking" by Kate Henderson out of the book Scrappy and Happy Quilts. It uses Perfect rectangle rulers but I had EZ Tri Tool by Darlene Zimmerman made by simplicity and they were same size for the three smaller triangles. I had to make a template for the biggest.  This quilt measures approx. 72.5" x 80.5" I had to decide if I could do this large size in a week. I used all scrap or a variety of older low volume pieces for the background. I emptied out a bag of these red violet lovelies ( one of my favorite colors the last few years) that I had been saving for something. So the cutting took a little bit of time because of the scrappy pieces I had to deal with. Friday Finish Improv "Closer to you"

"Closer to you" approx 46" x 48" spiral quilting did not straighten edges, just bound as is I finished! I am super surprised at this one. I have been working on doing the Improv scores from the book The improv handbook for modern quilters by Sherri Lynn Wood.  This is my #4 score on the patchwork doodle. I started the center blocks of this quilt last year when Louisiana Bendolph taught a class about Gees Bend quilts and quilters.  A good portion of this fabric is up-cycled pieces from my moms scrap box. The coral strips are pieces from an old dress. There is even a dart or two in my quilt that I left in.  Some of the denim is from a patch bag that she also had in her stash so I am assuming they are bits from her old jeans.  I didn't have any striped scraps from my dads old Oshkosh overalls so I went to the thrift store and bought a few striped shirts.  The lighter blue fabrics are from the portrait quilt I made of my mom called  So Blue . ...

Donations of fabric turned to donations for people in need

For quite awhile now I have been focused on fabrics donated to me or to my church group. I get in a mindset that I need to work through the bags and piles and try to keep it as organized as possible while also producing end products. So that is the case. I have not posted much but thought I would do a montage of some of the end pieces going to the womens help center, mission, and outreach places. When I get several mixed bags of material I try to cut down the already scrappy odd cut out fabric into usable squares of precut like sizes. It takes a long time but you end up with a nice stack of variety. The first quilt above is the odd pieces that were left over from all this cutting. I love a good coin quilt don't you? A friend donated a large stack of 15 quilt tops she made from upcycled bumper pad fabrics. I finished all of them for the womens center. They are cozy with bits of minky and other fabric appliques that have texture. Some flannel some denim some mixed. My mantra...just s...
