Chain of Sunshine

A few weeks ago I was digging in my stash and I came across the gold text print. I had a little over a yard and wondered what I should do with it. I had tried it before when I needed a yellow gold and it never seemed to go with anything. I had a stack of 2.5" scraps of low volume and tons that were bits left from FQ's and such.  I went searching for a pattern and came across this  Scrappy Irish Chain  by Center Street quilts...free on her blog. It is low volume and gold too..perfect! I cut from my scraps until I had a huge pile of 2.5" strips and I dug out my moms old June Tailor strip cutting ruler. Once I sewed the strips together and had to cross cut them this ruler is a keeper! I had the blocks sewn up in no time.  This ruler truly does make it easy to cut accurate and the points match up pretty slick.  These bits were cut offs from my scraps and really while skinny they just seemed to good to throw out so..........on the back they went along with 3 extra bl...

P.Q 13.5 - Rhythm and Repetition Go Big...

Image
Well this week for  Project Quilting 13.5  the theme is Rhythm and Repetition. I dug into my pattern/ruler pile and came up with "Mountain Hiking" by Kate Henderson out of the book Scrappy and Happy Quilts. It uses Perfect rectangle rulers but I had EZ Tri Tool by Darlene Zimmerman made by simplicity and they were same size for the three smaller triangles. I had to make a template for the biggest.  This quilt measures approx. 72.5" x 80.5" I had to decide if I could do this large size in a week. I used all scrap or a variety of older low volume pieces for the background. I emptied out a bag of these red violet lovelies ( one of my favorite colors the last few years) that I had been saving for something. So the cutting took a little bit of time because of the scrappy pieces I had to deal with. Still I was able to make the top relatively quickly.  did have trouble with my large template size triangles because the top tip was so wide it never gave me a point. I decided...

In the bleak winter...P.Q. 13.1 All the colors

Time for Project Quilting  13.1 first challenge of 2022 All the colors is the theme over at Persimon dreams website. I have been doing quite a few of these challenges since some of the first seasons. Sometimes you need a boost to get started on something.  This challenge was perfect to start because it is so cold and blah outside right now.  This quilt is 40" x 55"  fabric from stash, low volume backgrounds, solids, serpentine quilting The pattern I found in a quilt magazine I have been saving. Design is by Susan Ache and it is called "Postage Plus". I decided to start the challenge by picking a random magazine and making a random quilt that fit the challenge. I have so many books and magazines that are not getting used...as in made into quilts and I am saving them for that reason so ..why not?  I have been slow to get back to quilting so I thought to start small as in quilt size. I failed to realize that postage stamp blocks are usually tres small too.  Th...

Hands 2 Help - progress

I continued my scrap usage when making this little baby quilt for the H2H quilt drive. Mine is going to Little Lambs. I know so many quilt makers that are sending several but I was only able to get this one done in time. Truthfully I support a local Quilt for Kids group and have already delivered several to them this year.    I used a free pattern over at Sew kind of wonderful for this tree. It was great because I already had sorted a bunch of 2.5" strips into scrap piles and that is just what this quilt needed. I had a big stack of low volume strips too.  This is all washed and crinkly goodness.  linking up with Sarah the organizer of this group over at  Confessions of a quilt addict

Project Quilting 2019 Season 10.1

Image
2019 starts Season 10 of Project Quilting hosted by Kim  Persimon Dreams . The first challenge for the season was "Hope Springs Eternal".  I did not have a resolution this year but in my head I want to use a lot of what I have and dig out my patterns and books and just have fun making stuff. Well when the challenge came last Sunday I thought that the Hula Girl pattern by Sharon over @ Color girl Quilts  fit the bill. I love the linking rings in this quilt. Well, truthfully I had a bit of trouble paper piecing them to size from my printer but now I love them. haha The rings link in a way that allows everyone one to fit together, be together, side by side. Various low volume prints and solids in the back ground make the rings pop. Like the Olympic rings, I feel it represents everyone from everywhere coming together. I think that is hopeful. I loved using the low volume fabrics for the Mystery QAL by Kim and I didn't get it finished before the PQ 10.1...

Every little bit.....

Urbanologie Quilt Along with SomeKindOfWonderful is underway and I have been doing my best to keep doing the weekly blocks. Dealing with the mess of a remodel in my home it has been challenging but I am now only one week behind.  Slow and steady wins the race right?    I love using the Quick Curve Ruler to create these blocks.
