Classic block finish for disaster

Image
Classic Block this month is actually 2: Snowball and 9 patch Check out SewCanShe BOM page I started with a couple blocks and fabric from my stash to try out the tutorial   The top went together pretty fast. The whole while I am doing this I am thinking this will be a quilt to go the disaster relief quilt drive for Beaver Creeks tornado families. I finished in the afternoon and only a few hours later more weather disasters. Come on get Happy Finish!

Image
"Come on Get Happy"  Triangle Along - HERE I debated over the name of this little quilt. I felt like it was needing a name like Lily pad or Sunlight on the Pond. After my trials of working on this quilt a few weeks ago and I titled my post "Come on Get Happy", it sort of stuck in my head like the song.  You remember it right??? Partridge Family probably dates me a bit but it makes me smile to sing the song so I think it will make someone happy to get this quilt with that name too! ALYoF April finish - Enchanté

Image
My year of Lovely finishes for April was just completed as the sun was going down behind the neighbors trees. I was able to take a few pics.  "Enchanté" - Little Black Dress by Basic Grey  49" x 51" Charm pack quilt plus a couple fat quarters and some black grunge and floral yardage. Straight line quilting.       I used some left over charm s for the piecing of the back. I love the fabrics in this collection. I tried to mix other fabrics of my stash in with this fabric collection but I just kept coming back to the collection pieces. I am glad to make this a finish. I have already collected some of Little Black Dress II for another idea. :)   My original goal post is HERE   linking up with HERE

A Friday Finish = Friendship Star

Image
So instead of getting some great pics of my finished Friendship Star quilt I went out to lunch and did some shopping with a friend. :) I am happy with the finish and I quilted it with wavy lines which is one of the programed stitches on my machine. I love how crinkly it turned out. You can see the crinkles a little better here. I am still not sure about using all that white on white fabric for this quilt but it looks so springy. One/five for first quarter

Image
Okay so back when I signed up for the Finish-a-long I was skeptical that I would be able to do it. I wanted to but I kept putting other things in front of my goals.  Alas, I did finish one so I am taking that as progress anyway.  My 1st quarter goals can be seen HERE   My finish was goal #1 and it was great to finish and I just finished it last week. Onward....     Linking up with HERE

Serious Play time - Accuquilt

Image
"Apple core quilt" 44 x 54 flannel pieced backing curvy line quilting   Recently went to visit the Accuquilt facility near by with a group of quilty friends. The lovely Tammy Miller gave a tour and currently on exhibit were a few of Eleanor Burns quilts. If you are a quilter you know Eleanor Burns and her Quilts in a Day Series. The sign outside the Accuquilt gallery says "Quilts in Half a Day" with Accuquilt of course. Cracked me up a bit. ;) Inside the studio we were allowed to play with the Studio, Go and Baby cutter. I wanted to try something I knew I didn't want to spend time cutting out. In less than thirty minutes I cut out 80 apple cores. If you have an Accuquilt cutter then you probably know how accurate they are.  Once you fan fold your fabrics (I used some fat quarters, some half yards and yardage fabrics) making sure the grain is going the right way, then you just roll it through and let me just say....it is practically miraculous.  A...

ALYoFinish it up Friday!

Image
"Weathered Wood" 60 x 75 Friday and the end of the month...all is good! I am posting my finish for the month, the "Barn Door" from the QAL over at Sarah Quilts . I am so happy with my finish. I am even more excited that it was all from my stash.  It was cold enough outside that the tape kept freezing and letting go so I had to just lay it down for pics.  I used the other hour glass block on the back and then used more stash fabrics to piece it all together. I kept with the Barn door theme and tried to quilt it up with a giant "Z" and I think the placement of some of the fabrics lend themselves to the idea of slats of wood.  It just goes to show that making yourself use what you have sometimes can be surprising. :)  I really love this one and I think it is my largest quilt yet on my home machine.  I am linking this up with  HERE my original goal post is...

WIP Wed. -Finish Wed!

Image
I was all ready to write about my progress on my diversionary little log cabin blocks I started last week. If you remember I was side-tracked from the project at hand and just wanted to sew...so I made mini logs. (even had my husband sew a few logs on) :) ***** Update: I entered this log cabin finish in the FB group sponsored by  SewCanShe  and won! I am so so happy and shocked...but happy!!woohoo Well today I was quilting on it at 6 a.m. and by lunch time I was thinking I would just sew the binding on...then Voila! it is done.   Trying out the rolling foot...let's just say "LOVE IT"! I am trying not to let the imperfections of my FMQing stop me...I just kept quilting. The log blocks in the center were pretty bulking so I just did minimal circles there. I faced a bit of my 'negative space' fear by making up part of the circles out in no where land. I sort of had this lacy look going so I went with it.  And...this is what I ended up with. So much...

Friday Finish..yeah baby!

Image
I finished my "Goodnight Irene" quilt from the QAL over at Terry's Treasures blog .  Since I used a few fat quarters I decided to finish most of them off on the back side. I think it works. Next I finished 2 more blocks from the Skill builder 2013 QAYG BOM. Yeah me!!!   Looks like I need some spray starch. :) So...let's see I think I have 4 more blocks to go then quilt them and sew them together. Too early to say the end is near but I am just happy with a couple more done.  Linking up with  Crazy Mom Quilts for Finish it up Friday!
