WIP - End of Summer

Image
The weather lately means it is the end of summer. I still think my new quilt block quilt is pretty sizzling hot!  I love this block and how it came together. So far I added the corner stones and surrounding half stones. I really don't think I want a border on this but will use the orange or yellow for binding maybe. Still deciding. No idea how I am going to quilt around those jagged blocks yet either. Any ideas?  I have the back pieced and should try to get to it yet this week. ALYoF for May goal

This month I want to go small. I think I can finish this little wall hanging up pretty quickly. I sort of have a project in my head that I want to work on and see if I can make it come to life. I made this little Churn dash from my stash so not sure what I will put on the backing or binding but we will see what I come up with.  Linking up with HERE

ALYoF April finish - Enchanté

Image
My year of Lovely finishes for April was just completed as the sun was going down behind the neighbors trees. I was able to take a few pics.  "Enchanté" - Little Black Dress by Basic Grey  49" x 51" Charm pack quilt plus a couple fat quarters and some black grunge and floral yardage. Straight line quilting.       I used some left over charm s for the piecing of the back. I love the fabrics in this collection. I tried to mix other fabrics of my stash in with this fabric collection but I just kept coming back to the collection pieces. I am glad to make this a finish. I have already collected some of Little Black Dress II for another idea. :)   My original goal post is HERE   linking up with HERE

"Little Black Dress charm pack  quilt top"     This little quilt  topper was on my 1st quarter Finish along goals and it didn't get finished. I have to make the back and get some idea of how I want to quilt it. I am going to carry it over to my 2nd quarter list and hopefully get it done.     Linking up with A Lovely year of finishes HERE

ALYoFinish it up Friday!

"Weathered Wood" 60 x 75 Friday and the end of the month...all is good! I am posting my finish for the month, the "Barn Door" from the QAL over at Sarah Quilts . I am so happy with my finish. I am even more excited that it was all from my stash.  It was cold enough outside that the tape kept freezing and letting go so I had to just lay it down for pics.  I used the other hour glass block on the back and then used more stash fabrics to piece it all together. I kept with the Barn door theme and tried to quilt it up with a giant "Z" and I think the placement of some of the fabrics lend themselves to the idea of slats of wood.  It just goes to show that making yourself use what you have sometimes can be surprising. :)  I really love this one and I think it is my largest quilt yet on my home machine.  I am linking this up with  HERE my original goal post is...

ALYoF Feb goal

Image
Time to decide what I will complete this month. I am currently working on a quilt called the BarnDoor in a QAL hosted by Sarah at SarahQuilts.   I am using only fabrics I have had in my stash (for a long long time) and I came up with this. I love it! I have to make the two borders yet and I will have to piece the back because this is way bigger than I expected. Not sure what the quilty plan will be but I will make this my goal for the Feb. A Lovely Year of Finishes -Jan Edition Finish

Image
Here it is Friday and the end of the month. I am sad it is going so fast but I think I have some pretty good momentum going and I "hope" that takes me into Feb.  My January Finish for A Lovely Year of Finishes over at Bittersweet Designs and Fiber of all sorts  HERE is my Giant Starburst from the QAL over at  Canoe Ridge Creations . Original post about finish goal  HERE    It has been really windy so I have had to have my husband help but it is late in the day when he gets home so some of the pics are in the shadows. I really need to work on photography.   Yep, jumped on the IKEA fabric for this back. I love it with this. One of my favorite quilt making experiences ever! Measures 60x06 straight line quilting with Aurifil pieced binding Love the way the colors came together too! I might be using this in an upcoming contest but will have to wait and see.  Other than that I dabbled in some other crafty things. ...

A Lovely Year of Finishes -Oct Finish

Image
"Like Rain" the 4 block quilt finished! I actually finished it right after I set my goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes @ Bittersweet designs and Fiber of all Sorts HERE.    It measures 49 1/2 x 49 1/2 and it has improv back made from bits of the fallout on the front blocks. I love how it looks. Straight line quilting in a grid which really worked with that wipe open space on the front.  Block for this was from the Modern Block 2 at SewMamaSew with Allysia Lichner. I am super glad for a finish after a two month miss.  Linking up this month.

Quilter's Favorites and WIP Wednesday!

Image
Geta over at  Geta's Quilting Studio  is hosting a "Quilter's Favorites"  linky party.  I am new the blogging world and trying to get back into sewing and quilting.  I am not an expert in any way but I just used one of Geta's tutorials and so I thought it appropriate for me to participate.  I have learned so many things from the wonderful blogging world. Bloggers are so caring and accessible.  They tend to share freely of their work and designs as well as tips and tricks. Often there are challenges to get you to try something out of your realm and there is always something to learn.  Some Favorite Tools: I do have some favorite tools that I have found to be wonderful.    I love the Havel's Sewing Embroidery Scissors - It has a curved up blade so you can get really close to the fabric to snip threads. I just won this from my quilt guild last week and used it on the challenge piece I made this week (using Geta'...
