It must be the month...but I went quick and easy for my finish this month too. Feels kinda good! Looking forward to seeing how ya quilt this. :)V

Bright spot - a modern d9p finish

"Bright Spot" modern d9p  approx: 59 x 65 Last year some of my lqg members got together for a sew day and they made up kits to make Kristy Daum's moderized d9p (disappearing 9 patch). I didn't make it that day but knew I wanted to give it try.   She has an easy  tutorial  to try and it is fun to play with colors.   My other lqg decided to make this for our outreach project and I played with some colors that I thought would be fun ...so this is my sample.  Our charity quilt project is a bit different but the colors are the same.  The back is all crayola color names. Love the look of this fabric. I only have a tiny bit left.  Had a little fun out and about for a photo shoot...until the man on the tractor came that is! New Book Review: Perfectly Pieced Quilt Backs by Kelly Young

New Book by Kelly Young - Perfectly Pieced Quilt Backs I am so happy to read and review and use this book to work on my stash. Kelly has great tips and simple layouts to help you use your scraps up in a way to work with the front of your quilts. By using her tips you can use up leftover blocks and bits from the quilt you are making and you are not left with a huge scrap pile.  If you have been following me at all but especially this year I have made it a mission to use my stash.  Part of that mission was emptying out a couple of huge bags of scraps.  HERE  is an example of some of the scraps I used up. In Kelly's book there are 30 different quilt backs ideas. 15 using leftover scrappy bits and 15 more from yardage. Flowering Lonestar test and Giveaway!

  I am so excited to share with you the pattern I tested, "Flowering Lonestar" a new pattern by Melissa at SewBitterSweet Designs . I was so excited to be able to test this pattern for her.  This pattern goes together really quickly and is one of two patterns Melissa is launching today!!! Yes there are Y seams and Melissa helps you through. If you need more help in this area I found that the youtube video by Edyta Sitar HERE  will help you with some visuals. I knew I wanted to make a more masculine version of the lonestar. I used some FQ's from my stash and some lovely Basic Gray Grunge (my favorite). I think the colors worked well and for one last touch I made the background blocks on the side another color. I think it looks perfect for a baby boy! I did the quilting with Aurifil 50# weight color 5011 which blended with the prints nicely and highlighted the lighter side.  Spiral quilting with my walking foot to finish it off.  You can...

My turn for...Blog Hop for Scrappy Improv Quilting

  Today is the day........My turn on the Scrappy Improv Quilting blog hop for Kelly Young  @My Quilt Infatuation . My quilt is the "Improv Chapel Window" quilt. Very stained glass like improv scraps. Kelly used solids in the book for this quilt and I decided to use whatever was in my scrap bin. I made a sunrise rainbow-like style going from light to dark fabrics. I think it has a sunlight feel!   Measures 22" x 22"     Kelly's book is filled with improv mini quilts with easy to follow instructions. Kelly is a hero of mine when it comes to using up scraps after making beautiful quilts and this book really puts those scraps to good use! If you follow Kelly's blog you will often come across a post where she uses up ALL her remaining scraps from a quilt.
