Urbanologie finished

Urbanologie QAL was hosted by  Sew Kind of Wonderful I did the block sections at the time of the qal and managed a little change in the arrangement. It was a super fun quilt to make. But then how to quilt it? I felt it is such a whimsical quilt so thought I would go outside my comfort zone and have someone else quilt it. A friend in my lcq works for Mangelsons and they do quilting so she quilted it for me in a fun mash up of designs called 'texture'.  I brought it home and squared it up and bound it the next day. Whoop there it is.....one off my UFO pile!!!  It was 13 degrees out and snowing but I went out for a quick photo shoot and came home with these beauties to share.  So fun to put this naturey quilt out in the wild.  Here you can see the quilting that Haley did!. It is all texturey goodness.  Love the Quick Curve Ruler gals for fun innovative quilts.  Linking up with NTT @  My Quilt Infatuation and  Midweek Makers  wi

Every little bit.....

Urbanologie Quilt Along with SomeKindOfWonderful is underway and I have been doing my best to keep doing the weekly blocks. Dealing with the mess of a remodel in my home it has been challenging but I am now only one week behind.  Slow and steady wins the race right?    I love using the Quick Curve Ruler to create these blocks. Playing with the QCR mini

18" pillow Playing with the QCR mini and drunkards path blocks Our weather has been pretty crazy with the ice and cold and warmth the last few days. I decided to work at playing with the Quick Curve Ruler mini that I have. I wanted to make some plain drunkards path blocks and then play with layout.  I decided a pillow was a great way to accomplish something. I chose colors that would work in my living room and set out to play.  I came up with many layouts but our guild is going to focus on circles and curves as we start our new year so I went with this layout.  I was not able to achieve a perfect circle with the mini ruler but I like the sort of organic feel this layout has. I added uneven logs around the edges to keep that feel.  I am going to try something similar with the regular size ruler to help with a demo I will be giving soon. The Quick Curve Ruler by  SewKindofWonderful  is a really easy tool to use if you want to try your hand at curve sewing. The

This quilt I made using the  Quick Curve Ruler  by Sew Kind of Wonderful. I just love how easy it is to make curve blocks using this ruler.   I made this and several of their patterns for a demo I gave at one of my quilt guilds quilt show this last month.   This is one of those times that a deadline was good because that is almost all the sewing I have gotten to lately.  The pattern for this quilt is in their book One Wonderful Curve. I highly recommend this book if you want to give curves a try. Every pattern is so very different. And .......no I am not being paid by them I just love this product. :) I used all Moda Bella solids for this quilt. It measures approx 45" x 45" and simple straight line crosshatch quilting.  I love the movement it has. Makes me wish I had quilted it in circles.  Linking up with Kelly for  Needle and Thread thursday   and  Finish it up Friday  with Crazy Mom Quilts.

Friday Finish - Quick Curve Mini

and this is from my UFO pile too! So happy to finish.  I love this block with the curve edges. The block finishes at approx. 16" square.  I needed a small piece to use my leather roller foot to quilt it. I could have done more but I just wanted to play for a few minutes today.  Used up some more of my scrap fabric on the back. I doubt I will ever tire of green and black and grey fabric color combos.  Linking up with Finish it up Friday with Amanda Jean @ Crazy mom quilts and Can I get a Whoop Whoop

WIP - Elegant Curves

I was faced with a challenge last week that I had no spare time for. Even though I would not get it done for the deadline of the challenge I wanted to complete this table runner anyway. I will be showing a demo on the Quick Curve ruler next week and wanted one simple piece from the book  One Wonderful Curve  by sewkindofwonderful.   I changed up the layout and block number to accommodate my fabric and color choices to go with.  Will I always love grunge fabric? I think so.....  One of my goals this year for myself was to try more dense quilting that is not matchstick.  I had fun with this but I chose to backstitch instead of bury my threads and I should have not done that.  I have a knot button on my machine but still have to bury the ends so I am curious to what most of you do? For fun I took this on my front door. I love how the soft light shines through.  Linking up with WIP Wed @  Freshly pieced  and  Let's Bee Social at  Sew Fresh Quilts

ALYoF Jan and Finish it Friday

Two words about this photo shoot...Windy and Weeds!  Dry sticks actually. I clomped through some pretty sketch areas but really it was an excuse to enjoy the superb weather that day. I was not going to try to shoot this quilt out of doors but 58 degrees called to me. :) So my January A Lovely Year of Finishes = The Bead quilt. I think I am going to call it paper beads. It reminds me of the magazine print roll up beads I used to make as a kid. The more I walked the cooler the areas there were to explore.  Back from my walk...see the crinkly goodness? This is a simple wavy line quilting that I thought would sort of add to the abacus spinning on the bars. Eh, not sure if it worked but I like how crunchy it is. Urban Abacus Quilt Pattern from SewKindofWonderful  using the Quick Curve Ruler Size = 50 x 60 approx. pieced and quilted with Aurifil 2600 my fav Wavy stitch on my sewing machine used for quilting All scraps and stash except for the mint green which is Ma

Last night at a guild meeting I gave a demo on using the Quick Curve Ruler by Jenny and Helen @ SewKindofWonderul . I don't have many rulers but I purchased this one to do a sewalong that Jenny was doing on her blog. I quickly fell in love with the easy piecing. I was sewing curves and they were turning out every time.  No I am no affiliated with them at all but the ruler really makes curve piecing so sew easy! Some of samples from the class. I really love the stacked wave piece and I think that has lots of possibilities. There is my finished Abacus quilt that I will blog about for my Lovely year of finishes so far this year! The demo was fun and a few actually sat down and tried piecing it and all were successful! :) One new member, won the QCR giveaway. She was afraid of curves but no more...... Finish it up Friday! Black-eyed Susan

A Friday Finish!! This is my little wall hanging made from the free pattern over at SewKindofWonderful HERE  using the Quick Curve Ruler. I wanted to make a scrappy (from my stash and scraps) wall-hanging using the ruler.  This was super fun AND......drum roll please! I tried two new techniques for me on this. First, because I spiral quilted it, it was pretty wavy. I was able to figure out how to block this since it was so small. super easy and now it is very flat even though in the photo it looks wavy on the bottom. That is because I launched it out in front of me in the snow..haha! Second, I tried the fake piping binding. Super easy!! This is scraps of AG Indian Summer fabric. It has such a soft hand. I love the fun way the pieces are just shades in this scrappy piece. I am calling this one : "Black-eyed Susan" 24" x 24" spiral quilting fake piped binding scraps/stash fabrics     Here you can see a bit better the binding. I
