Modern Classic from Leftovers (Between the Blinds)

Image
This is the MQG modern classic makeover pattern by Diana Vandeyar called "Oblique" for the Feb 2017 issue.  I originally made the Chess on the Steps by Krista Hennebury. I named mine 'Strength and Beauty'  HERE I thought I could use additional fabrics in the composition with the specific ones the MQG listed but I don't think that is what they wanted. So with lots of leftovers I decided to see if I had enough fabric left to make another quilt.  I think I want to call mine "Between the Blinds"  58" x 58" Straight line quilting Foundation PP (freezer paper) So Fine in baby blue on top and Bottomline silver on bobbin (Both Superior Threads) The pattern for this is a foundation paper piecing pattern. I don't know about you but I didn't want to take the chance to print out all of these copies (4 for each block and 9 blocks) then have to try to go to a store and get more ink or order online s

ALYoF Jan and Finish it Friday

Two words about this photo shoot...Windy and Weeds!  Dry sticks actually. I clomped through some pretty sketch areas but really it was an excuse to enjoy the superb weather that day. I was not going to try to shoot this quilt out of doors but 58 degrees called to me. :) So my January A Lovely Year of Finishes = The Bead quilt. I think I am going to call it paper beads. It reminds me of the magazine print roll up beads I used to make as a kid. The more I walked the cooler the areas there were to explore.  Back from my walk...see the crinkly goodness? This is a simple wavy line quilting that I thought would sort of add to the abacus spinning on the bars. Eh, not sure if it worked but I like how crunchy it is. Urban Abacus Quilt Pattern from SewKindofWonderful  using the Quick Curve Ruler Size = 50 x 60 approx. pieced and quilted with Aurifil 2600 my fav Wavy stitch on my sewing machine used for quilting All scraps and stash except for the mint green which is Ma

Project Quilting #5 - Grocery Store Challenge

Image
I am going to start out by saying that this challenge has innumerable possibilities.  I thought of so many things I might use like this coveted piece of lettuce fabric I have (don't ask!).  Or rainbow colors for all the colors you are supposed to eat, fruits, veggies etc. On Thursday night, knowing I was going to be out of town for the day on Friday, I gave up the idea of making anything. Woke up Saturday morning, got out my dresden plate ruler and decided to give a small project a go.  Every time I go to the grocery store I forget to grab the big tote bags to get my groceries in. They are big and they don't fold down unless you take the time to really make them.  I decided today was the day for a soft fabric market bag. I am calling it "Be Green".   I made a mostly green dresden plate for the greens I love to eat. The fabrics are all from my stash and left overs from another quilt I made last year. I used a dresden plate ruler, made 4 1/2" petals and
