The Geode test

Image
Geode Test  Pattern by  Blossom Heart Quilts 48" x 48"  This pattern is FQ friendly. I chose to use 3 colors because that is what I had in grunge. The background fabric has wonderful facet lines in it to go with. It is a super easy pattern to make and you can find it on FB above or  HERE .   It was so sunny today and hard to grab a pic.    I used all fabrics from my stash for this including this chevron backing.  My husband was at a tool place and bought me this little laser guide. I used it to quilt across the blocks in several directions without marking. It takes a bit to get it in the right position but after that it was fun to sew. I will say that one of the batteries that came with it died after this quilt and the cost of replacement ones were a little over the price of a new laser.  I will see how long the new one lasts in there before I give my verdict.  I tried to quilt more on my piece after goin...

PQ #6 and a WhoopWhoop!

The Final Challenge for Project Quilting @ Persimon Dreams is "Isn't it Charming".  The entire front of the quilt has to be made of 5" charms.  I happened to have two Bobbins and Bits Charm packs and 1 coordinating FQ and some I had to make some Kona snow 5" squares because all I had was white white.  I felt a bit silly cutting 5" squares then sewing them back together then cutting them in half for my border but I felt to use up the last of the charms in the border (cut these into 4ths) because it was so scrappy I needed that solid break.  I did not have a pattern for this just made wonky stars with the 5" size block an went from there. This was fun and relaxing which was great because I had limited time this week and just wanted to make it work.  All the fabric is from my stash as well as the charm packs. "Charm Stars" measures approx. 48" x 48" Made in Ne.  Straight line quilting with Aurifil off white. Bac...

PQ season 6 #5 = Favorite Fabric: Little Black Dress

Image
I have to say this was another dream quilt for me. I love ogee/gula shaped quilt patterns. I found this one a while back and filed it away as a someday project.  When Kim announced the PQ challenge this week was our favorite fabric I floundered because I love so many many different fabrics. I just happened to see ogee quilt pattern by Rebecca Johnson called "French Connection" and bells and whistles went off in my head. I have/had a bag of Little Black Dress II and some other fabrics  (like grunge...mmmmm) collected that are sort of frenchy flavored bits of yum and I knew I had to put this together.  note: the sun going down made it a little washed out here. You can see the lovely gray greege colors, cream and black and beige. All of these worked really well together. This was a bit hectic this week to figure this out and do all those curves in one week but I kept at it.  I probably have a little bit less hair on my head but I love love love this quilt. ...

Feb. Finish 2013

Image
Yeah so excited...I have my Feb. Lovely finish....Finished!!! Finally my Relay for Life auction quilt is done.   I have not shared this with my niece yet who is hosting the auction but I will soon.  I was really unsure about the quilting. I actually wanted to use one by Elizabeth Hartman called the Dogwood trail but I was not convinced that I could evenly do that freemotion quilting so I opted for walking foot straight line quilting. I think it turned out pretty well.  Stay tuned for the Auction info. I will be posting and linking to that when she is ready for the auction bidding to begin.  Below is my nephew Travis who lost the battle with brain cancer. His sister Tara is doing the Relay for life auction soon.
