I am so excited to be taking part in the 2019 Online Quilters Meet and Greet organized by Victoriana Quilt Designs! Welcome Welcome Welcome ~~~~~~~~~ My name is Kris and I have been quilting for quite a few years. I started pretty young, learning from my mom.  When she passed away I was not sure I wanted to continue to quilt and then......I did.  I made a portrait quilt of her and you can read about it  HERE Over the past few years since, I have jumped into trying and finding my way. One of favorite trys was this scrap quilt called Triumphal Arches.  It was made of random scraps fitted with arch shapes. I used all sort of colors and then light to dark background scraps. It was so much fun to make. You can read about it  HERE Please take some times to visit the others on the Quilters Meet and Greet by clicking on the Logo up top  and click on the logo below to enter the giveaway.  Thanks for stopping by! Good luck to yo...

Project Quilting 2019 Season 10.1

Image
2019 starts Season 10 of Project Quilting hosted by Kim  Persimon Dreams . The first challenge for the season was "Hope Springs Eternal".  I did not have a resolution this year but in my head I want to use a lot of what I have and dig out my patterns and books and just have fun making stuff. Well when the challenge came last Sunday I thought that the Hula Girl pattern by Sharon over @ Color girl Quilts  fit the bill. I love the linking rings in this quilt. Well, truthfully I had a bit of trouble paper piecing them to size from my printer but now I love them. haha The rings link in a way that allows everyone one to fit together, be together, side by side. Various low volume prints and solids in the back ground make the rings pop. Like the Olympic rings, I feel it represents everyone from everywhere coming together. I think that is hopeful. I loved using the low volume fabrics for the Mystery QAL by Kim and I didn't get it finished before the PQ 10.1...

"Triumphal Arches" a Curvy Challenge

Image
Triumphal Arches 46 w x 40 h LMQG Curves Ahead Challenge scrappy arch curves I love arches. Many years ago when I went to Italy I just loved seeing arches, looking through arches at other things but most of all I loved the free standing triumphal arches.   My local guild had a challenge that I led called Curves Ahead. The idea was to inspire trying curved piecing though we accepted curved applique and curved quilting also.  I have been making quite a few circle quilts using various techniques and decided now was the time to try the arch shape. All of the quilt was made up of just pieces in my scrap bins. I grabbed random colors and sewed the arches and then pieced and puzzled them in between my scrap strips. Very little trimming was involved.  I placed the pieces from dark to light giving the illusion of sun and shadow on the arches, just like my photo shoot below!! I love the idea of Triumphal Arches and who knew I would actually find one near m...
