Spring adventures and Pine Lullaby fabrics

Image
Spring time suddenly seemed to creep up on me. I found out that my niece was going to be having a baby this summer but a baby shower in May. I decided this would be a perfect quilt to make using the group of AGF pine lullaby fabrics I already had. I have not been out to the stores shopping so I wanted to use what I had and open this nice FQ bundle. It came with a panel of bears hugging and I knew I wanted to use it somehow. My only question was could I make a quilt that was gender neutral?  I hope I succeeded! Too cute not to use.  On the front I used the pine trees which had pinks and alpine greens added some mint and peach. Then I heard my niece painted the baby room a sand color so I added some grunge that had taupe and mint and beige and peach. I tried to cover all bases.  The pattern is a free download from AGF and I believe it is called Wilderness.  It is a pretty easy pattern if you are using the number a fabrics and color changes they are but if you are makin...

Baby Paw

Image
This week was either wind and rain, or wind and cold or just wind. I have been chomping at the bit to get out and get some photos. Today it was sun and wind so I went out. I had moments when the quilt almost went into orbit but caught a few to share at least.  This is a Baby Paw. I have a great nephew that this is going to even though he just turned one already. ( I actually have his big brothers quilt even though he will turn 4) I digress.... ha I had a bunch of solid bright strips in various widths so went for it.  59" x 59" approx.  Quilted in a organic plaid fashion I had the cutest "Latifah Saafir" jump rope print that was perfect for the back of this one.  Off into the wild blue yonder...ha I hope to get this to him before he turns 5! National Quilting Day @home

Image
My goal for National Quilting day this year, since the International Quilt Museum festivities here in Lincoln were cancelled, was to quilt this baby quilt.  The blocks are leftovers from another quilt I made for this ones big brother. (I have a 2 week old great nephew to get to now) :) It measures 53" x 53" I did a diagonal crosshatch because the blocks and the borders I put on the corners made it sort of stretchy.  I started marking the lines on Saturday morning with the hera marker. So easy to use and no messy marks to wash out. One of my favorite tools.  It came out all nice and crinkly after the wash. Only a tiny bit of red came out on the color catcher and no bleed into all that white or other colors.  Set with white vinegar rinse.  If found this cute 'dream big' fabric with hot air balloons on for the back.  Another bright spot in the icky looking landscape of my back yard.  linking up with  L...

A finish or two: Sweet and Baby!

Image
Crossroads  52"x 52" It has been far too many months since the birth of my 'great' nephew.  I persevered,  put my nose to the grind stone, bit the bullet and got this little guy quilted.   This quilt is a kit with a bazillion kona solids in it by Robert Kaufman.  Super easy but how to quilt it was a baffler! I ended up with straight line directional quilting lines in Aurifil gray.  The white word fabric has the names of the colors in a 96 pack of Crayola colors. I thought it was super fun to put on the back of all these colors...until I wanted to quilt it. :)  The gray thread worked pretty well. Today I was so lucky to wrangle my friend Jen from Jennifer under the Juniper tree blog. We headed out for some adventures today including holding my quilt out near some cool train tracks.   After we spotted some quilty inspirations in the area. Totally fun quilt idea...right?  Then we headed to some fabric stores a...

ALYoF April goal - baby boy quilt

Image
Well it is already 7 days into the month and I think I will need an easy finish for my goal. I have most of the front together on this one and waiting for some backing to come from Massdrop. I am not sure how I am going to quilt it at all so if you have any ideas???? pass them on to me. Keep in mind straight lines are really more my thing but that is because of a few limitations (I choose to believe that anyway) at the moment. The slide on tray for my Bernina is cracked so I am waiting for a replacement table with a big flat space to do some fmqing practice on. Not sure I want to risk anything too hard on this quilt though. This is going to be for a very special little great nephew! The pattern is Kite Flight by Robert Kaufmann. Meaningful projects

Image
Once again it is Sew Thinky Thursday. Emily at  Mommy's Nap Time   has posed the question....." What is the most meaningful project you have ever made?" Well I have done lots of charity quilts and a few fundraiser quilts. Recently I finished a quilt my mom had started for a gala at my sisters church. I think though, that my most meaningful project was a quilt I made for my great niece when she was born. My niece is also my goddaughter and when she was pregnant she asked that I help with the decorating of her baby's room.  She came to visit and we picked out fabric colors and I wanted to really make it nice. Almost all of my family has gotten quilts from my mom for baby, graduation and weddings and they all appreciate the time and effort she took in making them. I am really close to my niece, Jennifer and feel like my great niece, Sophia is more like my very own grandbaby. Of course I wanted to make a special quilt. The pattern is my own interpretation of Lemon...
