Project Quilting - July "Independence"

Image
Okay, I am just going to say right up front that this challenge was very hard for me. I am not really into red, white and blue and when you think of "Independence" that sort of goes hand in hand.  So...I decided not to do this challenge because nothing came to mind.  This morning (yes the night before the challenge is due) I decided to try cutting into a fabric group of fat quarters that I have been hoarding for way too long. I decided there are so many other ways of thinking of independence so why not go for it.  July Challenge and linking up with   Project Quilting by Persimon Dreams : "Magnolia Day" 9" x 19" I have three coordinating fabrics of this Magnolia fabric that I love and never wanted to cut it up. I just posted to another blogger today that when you hold onto those fabrics we love, the spell it has over us can be broken when you decide to cut into them  and what you make from them you might fall in love with too.  This is so t

Project Quilting off season May = Make it and Use it!

May challenge for Off Season Project Quilting which you can find out about  here   Is the Patone Challenge.  The idea is to make something using part or all of these Patone colors for 2013: On a recent shopping trip to my local Cosmic Cow quilt shop I found a fabric line by Benartex called Manhattan Modern. It has many of the Patone colors in it.  Since I was thinking of combining this challenge with my very own Make and Use/Wear it challenge, I opted to make a quilted bag and a quilted bag insert.  Colors in this print piece: Dusk blue, monaco blue, tender shoots, emerald, linen and my fav grayed jade. I liked that so much I used a grayed jade upholstery for the bottom and handle backs.   The smaller bag works as an insert in the larger tote bag. I plan to use it to carry small sewing projects to and fro.  Both bags are quilted as you go with the sew and flip method. I lined both the large tote and the small sewing carryall.  The large tote is 20w x 15h wi

Fun Finish and Project Quilting off-season

I am super excited to post today.  I was not sure about the paper piecing project I started earlier this week.  It is a project from my quilt guild to make a monthly challenge block and this is #1. It is from  Quilt Jane blog  and it is block 21.  I think I did pretty well. A couple points not so so but still okay.  I decided instead of making a "Make it and Wear it" project this month that I would "Make it and USE it" instead.  I inherited this rocking chair from my Mom. This was Grandma's chair but sadly I did not know her as she died the year I was born. I loved the chair when it was at my Grandpa's house and my Mom and I refinished the chair after he was gone.  Now it is so many many years later and it needed a new cushion.   I made my block with fabrics that work well in my living room.   The terra cotta color is my wall color so I think it looks great.  Here is my improv back with zipper cover: Next up:  Project Quilting off season Apr

Sew Thinky Thursday...already?

Emily at  Mommy's Nap Time  has this weeks question up and ready.  First I can't believe it is Thursday and almost the end of the month..wow! Okay the Question for today :  If you were a quilt block which one would you be? Yikes! I have no idea. I have been getting back into quilting only recently. So I am not sure what it is or what represents me the most...yet! I plan on trying many many things. I know some people know exactly what they like and they do it and do it often and are successful. I want to try it all and then weed out what I enjoy. With that said...recently I tried pieced circles. So fun.  They turned out great and I loved doing them.  I think that I am more than that though. I love scrappy piecing right now too.  This is a charity quilt I made from scraps I made into a disappearing nine patch. I love the randomness of it.  And not so random but the precise work involved in piecing this Burgoyne Surrounded that my mother and I worked on last sprin
