Scrappy and Happy Quilts by Kate Henderson

Sun was just starting to coming up when I took this pic.  It was super windy this morning so it was hard to go to far from shelter.  I kind of like the sun starting down on the bottom corner. :)
My local quilt guild held this challenge and just said do what gives you Joy. We had a lot of variety in quilts and a lot of fun stories.

I can't put a fine point on what gives me "joy" but some of the things that came to mind while I was making this: I love to use fabrics from my stash. I used a few experimental dyed fabrics I made. The bottom left sun points were made by just pouring undiluted dye over another dyed color. It has dark and light spots that almost look like it burned the color into it. Love that. * note- probably not washable but that is okay for this project!
Also I love text so incorporated some lyrics into 3 outside edges.

I also like to try something new. I used my sewing machine pin feed to quilt this instead of a walking foot. It turned out okay. I will definitely use that again.

And of course, my blog name is Sew Sunshine so I love the sun pattern. I have to again say that my mom was the Sunshine to me and she is terribly missed. I know she would have wanted perfect points and matching seams but she would agree this has a sunshiney happy feel and would be okay with that.
And lastly,

Found a little sunshiney fabric for the backing.
It was a great challenge for me to take the time to work on this and reflect on why I do the quilts I do and what parts make me feel joy so that I can turn around and make some more. I know it is not perfect and I am okay with that because it means so much more than that.

Hand-dyed fabric is beautiful and you have used it in the best possible way to highlight every bit. The radiating rays beautifully complements the design!!!

This is a wonderful quilt! I see that you did the "focal point" quilting. I have done that a few times on smaller projects. It really adds to this Sunshine quilt. I definitely cannot strive for "perfect" quilting either. I usually am just glad that it is done.

I love this quilt! I'm going to look for the pattern next. Question: What is pin feed on your sewing machine? I have a walking foot but have no idea what pin feed is.

An attention-grabbing dialogue is worth comment. I believe that it's best to write more on this subject, it may not be a taboo subject however usually people are not enough to talk on such topics. To the next. Cheers free online casino slots
