Image
Ugly Christmas Sweater mini  pattern by Lorna from Sew Fresh Quilts 27x 27 scrappy quilt   My local modern quilt guild had an ugly christmas sweater holiday party. I did not nor do I want to own any actual sweater so I came up with using Lorna's sweater blocks on a faux knit tree skirt. I stapled garland and added felt mittens to go with the blocks.  oh and faux washi taped them on. haha What I discovered? it is hard even if you try to pick ugly colors and combo fabrics...Lorna's pattern is just so darn cute.  You can find more of her patterns  HERE Sadly this is horrible pick but you can see the fun tree skirt top and the 4 way tie winners of the ugly contest. After the contest I dismantled my tree skirt and made another sweater so I could make a mini and finish AND use my last label.  Caution Ugly Sweater quilt ahead...haha and lastly..... Went to visit my sister for Christmas. Got there just in ...

I should have been making more holiday presents or finishing ufo or phd projects but.........no.  I got distracted by an overflowing bag of neutral scraps and thought...hm I have time to make something and use up some of these scraps before the end of the year don't I? :)   I gallon zip lock bag full of bits Sew similar pieces together to make strips   Cut up a bunch of scrap batting too but forgot to take a pic of the stack of 30 pieces I was able to cut out of batting bits from other quilts. Decided on a red accent strip to try to make this scrap quilt a little more modern.  Way more dark strips than light in this one. I am sure I will use the low volume up in other projects I have in my head right now.  and the big reveal....... "Electric Slide" a scrap quilt approx. 53 x 63 scrap strips and scrap batting QAYG method with accent sashing  glue baste method I think the red accent fabric and placing all...

Best of 2018 linky party

I wanted to spend a little time reflecting on my past year. I really feel like I was able to make a lot of things and at other times the year seemed to fly and I feel like I did not accomplish all I wanted to. For the linky party hosted by Cheryl @  Meadow mist designs , I decided to list my most viewed top five.  1. Under the Rug (a scrap quilt)  HERE 2. Quick Curve Ruler class finish quilt  HERE 3. "That's Modern" texture quilt challenge piece  HERE 4. Old red barn block makeover  HERE 5. A community project called #love of everyday things  HERE   2 quilts were made by community on Nat'l Quilting day and then donated to the Child Advocacy Center of Lincoln So that is my top five viewed blog posts. I hope you visit the other bloggers who are posting their "Best of" posts from 2018. They can be found by clicking Meadow mists designs at the top of this post.

Hey There Foxy!

I recently purchased this super cute Fox pattern from my friend  Lorna @SewFreshQuilts  because I thought it would make a great kids quilt. Who would not be cheered by a little red fox?  Lorna has many patterns and they are so fun I know you will want to try one. *note: she did not pay me to praise her quilts they are just that fun! I wanted to snap some pics out on the park trail because we really do have a fox that frequents our neighborhood.  This guy is part of my year end sewing. I made a few gifts but I didn't want to forget about making a couple quilts for sick kids in need of comfort at my area hospitals. I sew from time to time for a local chapter of  Lincoln Quilts for Kids . I am sure there is a chapter near you too if you would like to contribute your time. The group usually has kits made up all ready to sew so all you need is your machine, supplies and batting to complete a small quilt.  Earlier this year, the QFK...
