Temenos or Sacred space

"Temenos" - a greek word
Meaning - temenos (plural temenoi or temene) A piece of land marked off from common uses and assigned as an official domain, especially to a king, chief, or god. A sacred circle where one can be oneself without fear.
This is a Bee quilt. My Beemates were given strange pieces of fabric I cut from sari underskirts.  My sister helped to care for a lady and when she died there were a few leftover saris that her children didn't want and several cotton colored underskirts she had made herself. I really liked the idea of using those fabrics.

The weather never seemed to cooperate so I tried to take pics here and there. My idea was to give this quilt back to my sister for her 70th birthday a few weeks ago.  Working with these fabrics and trying to make the color combinations work was really a challenge.
The back is made up of a couple wraps she also had in the box. These are cotton floral bouquet panels on one end and then more of that middle (above) overall design the rest of the length of the fabric. They were in orange floral and pink floral. I tried to use some of the front to bridge the trees together.
My sister, Lynette with the quilt.
So as you can see I completed it in time for the birthday celebration. I did not have many photos before so I took it back to do that. Also my Beemates have not seen it yet.

Could this be why I did not get any photos I liked?? me thinks it is yes!! haha who needs kids?

I made one more tree for on the back. It is lopsided and kind of crazy but it just seemed what it needed.

Another Bee label with Phyllis, Judy, Jennifer, Liz and myself. I made it smaller than my original drawing this time. I just love this label.

Some of the sisters. So the odd revelation from this weekend with the sibs was that all their birthdays fall within 5-6 weeks of each other. Not me though of course.
My niece also came for the weekend. Her birthday fell in with the rest of the crew. WE had fruit pizza with bday candles the first night and pretty gluten free cupcakes for the rest of the bday gals the second night.

Some shenanigans were had. As you can see great presents and entertainment was had by all. My present was the bobble shell duck. He is hatching a plan of revenge for next time. ha

And finally some beautiful pictures of Lauretzin Gardens in Omaha.
