A few finishes

Image
Really happy to finish this one.  Here is the strange story of how this one came about.  I bought a quilt kit on Craftsy a while ago for the pixelated eye. Not to make the eye quilt but because it was on sale and there was lots of Kona fabric in the kit. I got the kit and sat on it while I designed this simple "eye" quilt on graft paper using up some scraps and using the big piece of Kona Snow that came in the kit. I cut this all out and sewed it together and I had a ton of fabric left in the kit. I decided to go ahead and make the pixel quilt anyway.  The back of my designed "eye" is the pixel eye!! And then guess what? I still have a bunch of Kona Snow left from the kit so I have already cut it up and sewed into another whole quilt. That one I hope to finish soon. But wait, there is more...I still have Kona Snow left.  It is almost a yard and I am sure I will find something to do with it.  Let me just say this was a really good bargain. ...

Finished top for Around the Block Improv

Image
Last Saturday one of my guilds had a sew along for wonky houses. I wanted to do it because improv is so fun for me. It was a great afternoon and was able to make one full house and start on another. This week I put the rest of them together. It was really fun. Not sure how great overall this is but it was a good time and I am sure someone will love to snuggle under it.  Linking up with Confessions of a Fabric Addict  Can I get a whoop whoop and Crazy Mom Quilts  with Amanda Jean

PQ- Thread

Image
Project Quilting challenge this week was thread. I found this cute Cori Dantini print and decided to go for the fmqing and not stop until I was done no matter how awful my stitches were. Yep, they are not the greatest but I kept at it. I tried several fillers and just kept going.  Made in Ne. approx 24" x 30" Linking up with Persimmon dreams PQ challenge  Here voting will be linked up later today for voting all week long.  VOTE HERE  until noon on friday 12th of Feb. WIP - swirl

Image
Not quite sure what I am doing with this improv swirl piece.  I was just so excited that I could improv it around and around. I made it to a size I thought was big enough and then wanted to sort of swirl out  of it. It reminds me of a fabric corsage. :) I think this is the better direction but I have to set it aside and stew on a it a bit. Any comments or ideas are welcome...finish as is ?  For now I am just pleased it lays almost flat!!  linking up with WIP Wed. over at  Freshly Pieced and Let's Bee Social over at  Sew Fresh Quilts

Friday Finish - Quick Curve Mini

Image
and this is from my UFO pile too! So happy to finish.  I love this block with the curve edges. The block finishes at approx. 16" square.  I needed a small piece to use my leather roller foot to quilt it. I could have done more but I just wanted to play for a few minutes today.  Used up some more of my scrap fabric on the back. I doubt I will ever tire of green and black and grey fabric color combos.  Linking up with Finish it up Friday with Amanda Jean @ Crazy mom quilts and Can I get a Whoop Whoop

WIP - Elegant Curves

Image
I was faced with a challenge last week that I had no spare time for. Even though I would not get it done for the deadline of the challenge I wanted to complete this table runner anyway. I will be showing a demo on the Quick Curve ruler next week and wanted one simple piece from the book  One Wonderful Curve  by sewkindofwonderful.   I changed up the layout and block number to accommodate my fabric and color choices to go with.  Will I always love grunge fabric? I think so.....  One of my goals this year for myself was to try more dense quilting that is not matchstick.  I had fun with this but I chose to backstitch instead of bury my threads and I should have not done that.  I have a knot button on my machine but still have to bury the ends so I am curious to what most of you do? For fun I took this on my front door. I love how the soft light shines through.  Linking up with WIP Wed @  Freshly pieced  and  Let...

WIP is a bit of a Mystery

Image
Here is my first block from the Midnight Mystery Quilt-along.  I am really loving the colors and how this came together. I have some questionable scant seams but overall I love it. I can't wait to see get the rest of the blocks sewn together.    Not to late to join in on the mystery quilts..go check out Cheryl and her fun quilt-a-long.  HERE Linking up with WIP wed over at  Freshly Pieced and  Lorna over at  SewFreshQuilts

Project quilting New Season - Cutting room floor

Image
"Cutting room floor" my latest for Project Quilting 17 x 19 aurifil thread made in Nebraska Challenge #1 confetti challenge scraps and fun slash and fit piecing  Linking up with Persimmon Dreams HERE This week was super busy putting up my local Modern Quilt guild's first gallery exhibition.  I was bound and determined to make something for this challenge but on Saturday night I still had not decided.....until I remembered that I had changed the blade on my rotary cutter just that morning. It was like cutting through buttah! I knew cutting was the way to go so I started slashing and sewing and slashing and sewing.  Nothing like a new rotary blade! why oh why do we try to make it work when dull??? This 'cutting room floor' piece was so fun because of the fabrics that looked like bits and the white fabric has faint gray circle scribbles like loose threads. I think it worked well together.  Please go and vote  HERE  for your...

Bzzy Project

Image
Bzzy Bee pj's happening at my house. I had to guess at the size my great niece is so I hope they fit. I love this Hoffman flannel. I found a simple tshirt in the exact matching color and decided to make the top match by making an applique.  It has been a long time since I did something like this so it was fun.  Makes me want to make myself some pj's! I happen to have a few orange FQ's and they worked perfect with this bee.  Linking up with Let's Bee Social of course  Sew Fresh Quilts and 31 days of blog writing challenge

Bright spot - a modern d9p finish

Image
"Bright Spot" modern d9p  approx: 59 x 65 Last year some of my lqg members got together for a sew day and they made up kits to make Kristy Daum's moderized d9p (disappearing 9 patch). I didn't make it that day but knew I wanted to give it try.   She has an easy  tutorial  to try and it is fun to play with colors.   My other lqg decided to make this for our outreach project and I played with some colors that I thought would be fun ...so this is my sample.  Our charity quilt project is a bit different but the colors are the same.  The back is all crayola color names. Love the look of this fabric. I only have a tiny bit left.  Had a little fun out and about for a photo shoot...until the man on the tractor came that is! In this landscape you can see why I came up with "Bright spot" for the name of this quilt. :) This quilt was one I started back a few months ago and I was all excited to try doing the quilting in t...
