WIP and Let's Bee (more) Social!



I am getting way ahead of myself these days. I signed up for two classes in one week, I belong to 3 guilds now, and I am helping to host some improvisational sewing days at the International Quilt Study Center and Museum.  The Saturday class I am taking there is with Victoria Findlay Wolfe and I can't wait!!
All of this leads to little getting done and lots of things started and little getting done...did I say that already???? :)

So my class yesterday was with Tony Jacobson, designer for Fons and Porter Magazine.  He designed the 3 Tours star quilt and so I signed up. It is a beautiful quilt design and very fun. However I am pretty much on a budget and wanted to do more from my stash.  Mine is not going to be the traditional look of red, white and blue but I think it will be pretty just the same.

 
I did manage to finish all of the star blocks and started to work on my striped section when suddenly our time was up.  So fun to sew with others so if you have never done it you should give it a try.
 
 
Last Saturday was our first "Afternoon at the Improv" sewing day at the Museum.   It is an open discussion, with sharing of books and topics of Improvisational piecing and then you can work on the demo pieces or just sew what you want.   We had a great turnout for our first gathering.  We had a demon on slash and insert and 1/4 curve circle piecing.

Wow! It sounds like you are involved with a lot of inspiring groups and classes! I really like the blue and grey color scheme for your star quilt!

You are a busy lady! The improv day at the museum looks like it was a success! I hope I can make it next time. I really like the colors of your star blocks!

I love your stars! The little bits of teal/aqua are very cool and I imagine they're going to pop wonderfully in the finished quilt. Good luck getting everything done ^_^

Project Quilting Season 5 - #1

  So excited that Kim over at  Persimon Dreams is hosting Project Quilting again this year. It was so fun last year and I accomplished a lot.  This year I had so many ideas for this first Challenge. I wanted to do something more arty but when it came down to it I really need to make lap or baby size quilts for some of the charities I contribute to. WIP - End of Summer

The weather lately means it is the end of summer. I still think my new quilt block quilt is pretty sizzling hot!  I love this block and how it came together. So far I added the corner stones and surrounding half stones. I really don't think I want a border on this but will use the orange or yellow for binding maybe. Still deciding. No idea how I am going to quilt around those jagged blocks yet either. Any ideas?  I have the back pieced and should try to get to it yet this week. Around the Block Party!

"Around the Block" party finish this week. 40 "x 40" approx.  My last week was so productive that I only have a small finish so far this week.  My lqg got together one afternoon to make improv house blocks. It was so much fun that I made a whole block party of them.  I was trying out an idea for a color challenge using a paint chip that has 3 colors. This one had an amber orange color, a chocolate brown and an aqua. I sort of mixed in some gold too but it was fun trying out a color scheme like this and I think it would be fun guild project.  I love how they turned out and and it has started some talk about doing some outreach work for Habitat for Humanity homes. Finish it up Friday and S'more Love Giveaway

  Today I have a quilt top done from my "Goodnight Irene" QAL over at Terry's Treasures HERE .  This was a pretty fast and fun put together. Few issues along the way but now going to piece a back and get this baby quilted. Today...or tomorrow...or soon!!!!   I decided to go 5 x 7 rows and then add the border. I think it will be a pretty good size. I am going to use more fat quarters for the back I think. The mix of prints and colors worked pretty well overall. Indoor pic..sorry!
