Project Quilting Season and Patone Challenge

 Project Quilting challenge = done!
Here is my "Sweet Treats" inspired quilt for this round of Project Quilting hosted by Kim over at Persimon Dreams HERE

My sweet interpretation comes from a couple of places. First, the Olympics starting this week. Love this! I love all the quilty goodness all over the place at this years Sochi Olympics. Such fun colors too! So watching the pre-Olympic news I caught a lot of their logos and one that kept coming up is the use of 'equilateral' triangles. I have wanted to try them again.  Second the location and all the beautiful scenery at the Olympics is just breathtaking. I am loving some of the beginning events too, especially the snow events like slope skiing.

I then thought the triangles in shades of purple looked a lot like 'rock candy'.
So this is my "Purple Rock Candy Mountain" quilt:

Note: It just started snowing like crazy here so that is added bonus to my challenge theme. I have the mountain and someone else "?" provided the snow topping! haha

  Measures 27w" x 25h"
pieced
match-stick quilting in 8 shades of purple thread
Front has Kona solids with some of my own hand-dyeds mixed in. A lovely ombre fabric I had in my stash was added in.
Backing pieced with a few triangles.

I think this will make a great entry for the Patone Radiant Orchid challenge mini

2014 Pantone Quilt Challenge: Radiant Orchid

*I can't win on trying to take new photos. The last two pics were  taken today after two days of 60-70 degree temps. At least it is not a snow storm like in the original post, just frosty. sigh...

Spectacular little mini! Love all that intense quilting!
It's a great quilt - I love that the triangles are oriented sideways, love the use of different coloured threads for the matchstick quilting and the use of negative space.
This is really lovely - the dense quilting is really great as well as the piecing! Thanks for playing along with the challenge.

I'm in love with your quilt, Kris. The colours, the design, your quilting and that pieced binding all make this a wonderful quilt. Well done!

Man this is a stunner. Your placement of the different shades of purple almost make it sparkles. There's so much movement and things to see. I also love your off-centered placement of the triangles and the "border". Beautiful work!!
