P.Q. 16. 4 - Birthstone


Project Quilting this round is Birthstone and my month is Alexandrite. Not my favorite at all and yet I happen to have some fabric that is not only that color but also sparkly. Hard to see but bottom L you can see the shimmer from the lamp. 

I was not going to do this challenge because of time but when there is no time it seems you get more done. 
I went with a tried and true hexi layout. The fabric bundle had 6 shimmery pieces and I added 2 that I happen to have that looked good. 
Another kid size quilt for giving! 


All the pieces have some kind of gold shimmer which adds to the jewel color I think. 

I did diamond quilting which is more visible here. My photos have been limited this week because of a neck bother that won't go away. I am still able to work on stuff but only in certain positions. ugh

I love this scrappy random version and it all came together because of my sister's dislike of that aqua solid. She gave it to me in strips so I knew I had to use it for sashing someday...I have enough for at least one more. .ha
And the second one in red is scrappy too but I used a denim square in the center...perfect because no extra seam bulk. Don't know what I mean? go check out my other link above.

Love your hexie quilt! I looked for some fairy frost fabrics in my stash to use for the challenge - must have got rid of it years ago.

How perfect to use a sparkly fabric in your birthstone colors for this challenge! All of the hexies represent Alexandrite perfectly since the gem takes on changes in different lighting. I've never made a hexagon quilt...love yours!

Project Quilting Season and Patone Challenge

  Project Quilting challenge = done! Here is my "Sweet Treats" inspired quilt for this round of Project Quilting hosted by Kim over at Persimon Dreams HERE My sweet interpretation comes from a couple of places. First, the Olympics starting this week. Love this! I love all the quilty goodness all over the place at this years Sochi Olympics. Such fun colors too! So watching the pre-Olympic news I caught a lot of their logos and one that kept coming up is the use of 'equilateral' triangles. I have wanted to try them again.  Second the location and all the beautiful scenery at the Olympics is just breathtaking. I am loving some of the beginning events too, especially the snow events like slope skiing. I then thought the triangles in shades of purple looked a lot like 'rock candy'. Persimon Dreams The final Challenge

  Here it is ...the Final Challenge. I don't know how to even go about telling Kim over at  Persimon Dreams  how much I have enjoyed participating in her Project Quilting this season. It has helped me get back into quilting and sewing which I was not sure I was even going to do again.  Last year in the spring, my Mom got sick and we ended up having to move her to a nursing care facility. She was 93 and lived by herself in a house across the road from our old farm.  Mom passed away and we buried her the day before her 94th birthday in the fall.  I learned almost everything I know about sewing from her and we shared a love of quilts.  When I saw the Project Quilting challenge I felt I had to give it a go.  The challenges were just fun and no pressure on judging or even finishing.  My mom loved the t.v. show Project Runway and I think secretly wished she could do something like that.
