P.Q. 16. 4 - Birthstone


Project Quilting this round is Birthstone and my month is Alexandrite. Not my favorite at all and yet I happen to have some fabric that is not only that color but also sparkly. Hard to see but bottom L you can see the shimmer from the lamp. 

I was not going to do this challenge because of time but when there is no time it seems you get more done. 
I went with a tried and true hexi layout. The fabric bundle had 6 shimmery pieces and I added 2 that I happen to have that looked good. 
Another kid size quilt for giving! 


All the pieces have some kind of gold shimmer which adds to the jewel color I think. 

I did diamond quilting which is more visible here. My photos have been limited this week because of a neck bother that won't go away. I am still able to work on stuff but only in certain positions. ugh

I love this scrappy random version and it all came together because of my sister's dislike of that aqua solid. She gave it to me in strips so I knew I had to use it for sashing someday...I have enough for at least one more. .ha
And the second one in red is scrappy too but I used a denim square in the center...perfect because no extra seam bulk. Don't know what I mean? go check out my other link above.

Love your hexie quilt! I looked for some fairy frost fabrics in my stash to use for the challenge - must have got rid of it years ago.

How perfect to use a sparkly fabric in your birthstone colors for this challenge! All of the hexies represent Alexandrite perfectly since the gem takes on changes in different lighting. I've never made a hexagon quilt...love yours!

SuperNova Friendship swap - Finish ALYoF

I can't help it ...this quilt makes me smile!  My swap partner Jenn  Jennifer under the Juniper Tree  (her post on her version is up so go check it out) and I finished our quilts. I built this city.......

"I built this city - Lincoln" Project Quilting season 8:4 theme=brighter the better Made in Ne. 34.5" x 20.5 Lincoln Ne skyline pattern designed by Shannon Brinkley I built this city from the tiny bit scraps triangles leftover from making binding. I knew I wanted to make something scrappy for this bright/bold challenge. I already committed my smallish scraps to another random improv piece. I knew for this piece I would have to 'very' small. I decided to make my own fabric.  I randomly laid my tiny bits onto a sheet of heat and bond. I tried to not overlap too much but butt them up against each other.  As you can see there are no straight lines to this just cut and butt. Once I had an area full I pressed them down with a hot iron using a craft sheet over top and below just in case of sticky bits.  Once the fabric was made I cut it into 1" strips and then down to 1" squares. Japandi - a bee quilt

Japandi 57" x 49"  improv crosshatch organic quilting a BeeUtifully Modern Bee quilt my Bee mates: Jen, Phyllis, Liz and Judy  This quilt is the first blocks my beemates and I made together.  I was up for Queen Bee first and I chose a combination of Japans wabi-sabi style mixed with the clean natural lines of Scandinavian design. Throw in asking for making your own stripes and a neutral palette and you get Japandi style! It took me 2 full length audio books to piece the blocks together once they were turned in. I think I figured close to 22 hours. It was a challenge to create balance and use up all the bits.  It is hard to tell from here but some of those little bits are tiny tiny bits, skinny lines and stripes.  With our Bee if you want your piece bigger you have to make quite a few blocks and bits to fill in. Grow'n Up

Another UFO off the stack! This is "Grow'n Up" 81"x 81" approx made of a collection of green scraps and fabrics with a pop of fuchsia pink which I love, QCR pattern by SewKindofWonderful called Green Smoothie found in the One Wonderful Curve book quilted by Sonya Nelsen @ GraceElizabeth's   I searched for a corn background that I could take some photos. I found corn and non-blooming sunflowers at this location but also a early morning Utility worker doing his paperwork on the side of the road. I didn't really want to shoot with him watching so I drove around some more.  He stayed there so I decided to come back the next day and yep...there he was again. ha This time he headed off when I drove by really slow ;) My plan was to hurry and get the photos before the sun broke through.
