Urbanologie finished

Urbanologie QAL was hosted by  Sew Kind of Wonderful I did the block sections at the time of the qal and managed a little change in the arrangement. It was a super fun quilt to make. But then how to quilt it? I felt it is such a whimsical quilt so thought I would go outside my comfort zone and have someone else quilt it. A friend in my lcq works for Mangelsons and they do quilting so she quilted it for me in a fun mash up of designs called 'texture'.  I brought it home and squared it up and bound it the next day. Whoop there it is.....one off my UFO pile!!!  It was 13 degrees out and snowing but I went out for a quick photo shoot and came home with these beauties to share.  So fun to put this naturey quilt out in the wild.  Here you can see the quilting that Haley did!. It is all texturey goodness.  Love the Quick Curve Ruler gals for fun innovative quilts.  Linking up with NTT @  My Quilt Infatuation and  Midweek Makers  wi

Finish it up Friday - Random Logs

approx 37" x 47"  "Random Logs" finished UFO woohoo I made a quilt with some of this fabric for a charity a few years ago. (below) In keeping with my organizational challenge to not just move things from place to place but to finish things, I decided to just sew. I had 6 small 8" blocks and a bunch of scrap strips cut in a bag with backing fabric tucked in there too. I literally just started sewing strips on to the blocks and made 3 more just from scraps. The most fun was that I didn't once measure the blocks just squared them up after adding each log. I marked on my design wall the desired size I wanted for this crib size quilt and just kept sewing until I got within range. Totally mindless and very enjoyable sewing. Yay!!!  ....another one bites the dust and another one is gone!!   This was on my  2017 UFO challenge  on a secondary list, still, it is a goner!! I made more log cabin blocks but didn't fit them in because

WIP is a finished ufo

This is from another BOM last year at SewCanSheSewcialities. I loved the star in a star in a star idea and kept going until it measured about 48" square.  I actually finished it last night but it was too dark to get any photos. I was just so motivated to get another UFO off the pile.   I love the backing fabric almost as much.  Linking up with WIP Wed @  Freshly Pieced and with Lorna @  Let's Bee Social - Sew Fresh Quilts and day 6/31 of blog writing  Challenge and  HERE

Channeling Victoria Findlay Wolfe

Image
So many of you quilty people have probably  read the C and T publishing post where you can ask questions about their authors. If you are lucky your question will be answered. Well, Jane Combs asked How does Victoria Findlay Wolfe do it all? Victoria answered with how her days usually go.  read article here Many of my friends, and myself,  took away from this post that we are totally and unforgivably lazy do nothings!  Well..... that might be a little over dramatic! I need to brutishly look at how I spend my days. ha First off....not to worry...some of Victoria's work she has help with.  Well, me too, if I play my cards right.  Since today is Saturday I figured I could channel a little VFW today and see what happens.  The biggest help I have it is to be left alone bright and early to get organized. No problem. Hubby gets up between 5 and 6 a.m. and generally leaves around 7 for work.  I got up and took my meds giving me 30 minutes to do something before I have to have a shot of

Project Quilting season 6 - #3 = Trellis

PQ challenge 3 this time is Orphan block or UFO and make something unintended from them.  I don't think I did exactly that this round. The lattice blocks were part of a white elephant swap back in Dec. with my guild.  I decided to mash that with some fun petal scrappy blocks and ended up with  "Trellis" She is 41" x 48" Orphan block strips and my appliqued petal blocks Some straight line quilting some wavy. Scrappy binding. I think some child will like this bright little quilt. I received two chunks of finished blocks. They were sewn together but differently and I really wanted to make them work together. I stopped in and visited with some of the members of a small sewing group and asked for advice how to make this up.  I came away with an idea to use the blocks separately and make two quilts with them. So I let that stew in my mind and went about my other work until this challenge.   I found tons of orphan blocks that I could have used for this cha

Operation Completion!

One UFO done! Back in the fall of 2011 I started this little wall hanging. I found the idea in a magazine and I wanted to try the sew and flip method. I had left over fabric from the baby quilt I made my great niece in purples and aqua, dug out some old scraps and cobbled it all together.  The FMQing is not all that but it is still cute.  Now back to the Birdbath quilt for Relay for Life. Here are the blocks so far. I like the blocks individually but not so happy with them right up against each other. It is supposed to have the corners added on yet to finish the birdbath but I think I will need to add sashing in order for me to like it. Even if it is just a 1/2" between them. hmmmmmmm??? Any thoughts?
