Trial Run

One of my local quilt guilds had a group of lovely ladies come and talk about various charity and out reach programs last month. At the end of the talk I sent out a challenge to design a small quilt for one of them.  I handed out graph paper with the optional sizes on it and told them to keep it modern and simple.  We hope to have them turned in by next meeting and with a little luck and some volunteers, I hope to turn at least one of the designs into a kit-able quilt kit for others to sew up.  I thought I better give it a go so here is one of my simple modern designs. This went together really quick and didn't waste much fabric. I was able to grab fabrics I had on hand to go with the cute butterfly center fabric.   Since the design was so simple I took the time to free motion mums all over in Aurifil gray.  I am getting better at free motion but still not great. I could make several more of these before I will say good. :) I thought a local park was a good photo op

WIP Wed - All Aboard!

First up today is a bit of work on my boat blocks. I decided to try to make up several quilts with my red, white and blue/aqua scraps. Here is the first one. I went with 6 1/2" blocks which is what I had a lot of. Win win! The boat doesn't really stand out too much but I think some little one will love it anyway.  Now to get it sandwiched and practice fmqing!! I was feeling so behind with the county fair here all last week.  I volunteered several times and tried to work on more charity quilts while there if I was not white gloving the quilts. Here is my little piece that I am proud to say earned a blue ribbon! Here is one of the kits I made up last week for Quilts for Kids (they had a booth at the fair that I worked at a bit during the fair).  This kit I decided to do myself because it had a block that needed piecing and I was trying to use up pieces for the back too.  Lots of stash fabric! It turned out kind of cute. :) Between shifts at the fair I tried

This was a busy week. At first I felt like I was not getting anything done. One goal was to complete another charity quilt with my Craftsy BOM from 2012.  I made myself get some out and just go for it.  Pretty busy but it is 6 more blocks used!!! yeah Then I put together my last 4 blocks from the  Modern BOM 2 Block #1 blocks. This one I will call "In and Out". I had to spiral quilt this one too because it was just so fun!! Then....while I was in a finishing mode I got out a couple small pieces that were from my moms stash. I thought the little girl print, which I think is a Daisy Kingdom print, works well in these little flannel backed preemie quilts for  Lincoln Quilts for Kids . I started planning what I want to do for the final  Project Quilting  challenge. :) and then there is my husband, Matt. He ran a 10k Saturday morning (when it was about 32 degrees F). He finshed 3rd in his age group....YES!!!  (he is in the white
