31 days of blog writing...me?

Image
Taking the 31 day Blog writing Challenge sponsored by  CHERYL SLEBODA   HERE . Why? I keep asking myself. I have hardly been able to blog, hardly been able to create but I feel a tiny bit of motivation taking this on. Don't you do that sometimes? Jump into something before your rational mind takes over and talks you out of it?   I might have nothing to say or nothing to show but I am going to get motivated and play and see what happens.  Just the thought of doing this today made me get into my sewing room and work on an improv name tag.  This is a scrappy improv pieced name tag.  Bad picture but you get the idea. I made it into a pouch so that you can put business cards or raffle money or whatever in the pouch.  Also earlier this week I made this scrappy selvage small zipper bag.  I added a bead zipper pull just because I have tons of beads and wanted something fun. All scrappy bits, batting bits and lined. Used my tutorial on quilt as you go  HE

Odds and Ends in Fits and Starts!

A little bit of fun at my lqg sewing day: Hootie and Blowfish are chicken pincushions. I love how they turned out.  photo by Taura Horn I was having trouble staying focused on things. My lqg is making a outreach quilt for a family that will be moving into a new home by Habitat for Humanity next year.  We collected d9p blocks from our members and then worked on it for a few days.  This was so much fun to work on but it wore me out. My own projects have been suffering. Another lqg I am in met at Accuquilt for our meeting and we had use of the Studio cutters for some fun.  I gathered up some fabrics and cut and cut and cut. Here is one piece I actually completed.  It is a long skinny wall runner and it perfectly depicts the weather right now. I wanted to 'try' to be creative so I came up with the idea to stitch a saying in the binding with my machine. After careful planning I STILL stitched it too close to the center of the binding so I had to fold it

Blogger's Quilt Festival - Modern

"Dapple"  43" x 43" Improvisational piecing  Blogger's Quilt Festival is happening now. I was motivated to enter one wall hanging and now I am going to go ahead and enter another favorite for this year.  This was a score from the Improv Handbook for Modern Quilters by Sherri Lynn Wood. I started this project at a sew day with several other members of my local quilt group. It just was so fun to do. "Literally floating squares"  - I had to say it ...again! My original post is  HERE Spiral Quilting using and walking foot and Aurifil thread.  The last of my IKEA fabric! Love that building but it was so bright and I was in the bushes...haha Oh well what we do for our love of quilts! I am entering this one into the MODERN Quilt category! Please click on the link below and stop by to vote.  Voting is open the 29th - nov 5th Also you can nominate up to 3 quilts for   VIEWERS CHOICE  just click on the link and vote

Blogger's Quilt Festival Time - He Said, She Said

Image
I am so excited. I missed out on entering in the Blogger's Quilt Festival last time and want to make it in this year.  I am entering in my recent finish "He Said, She Said" because I made if for me and I love it so much!!  "He Said, She Said" Love 24"x 24"approx. This has 28 shades of grey newsprint/fabric and 1 piece of green fabric that is variegated.  This is the second time I made up this pattern by Liz Havertine from the LA Modern Quilt Guild. I just love it so much I know I will make it again but maybe bigger? I entered this little one into my local guilds "Shades of Grey" challenge.  Matchstick quilting with 6 shades of thread I had some fun taking photos at this old building that used to have a complete sign for Best Flour on it. So fun to get out and see things in the neighborhood. So thankful many people let me crawl in their bushes to get some photos!  haha You can see my original post  HERE

Friday Finish!

Image
From Flimsy to Finish in two days! So excited to have something finished from all the recent start projects I have going.  I have not been able to keep much focus so I start one thing and another and pull out something old and and and..... So happy to finish. This was a kit for Quilt for Kids and it was so easy to make. The kit had enough fabric for the back to just trim and bring around and stitch down on the front. Super easy.  I used my own tutorial for this  Back to Front Binding with Glue Basting . Simple and done! It has been raining on the mums so they are fading a bit but the marigolds looks good.  Linking up with  Crazy Mom Quilts  for Finish it up Friday and Needle and Thread Thursday  with Kelly who once again highlighted my quilt finish from last week. Thanks Again!!!! and  Confessions of a Fabric Addict  for Can I get a Whoop Whoop with Sarah!

WIP -Flimsy, scraps and scrappy!

I could not resist from running out and taking a photo with these mums! They are volunteer mums too. That is a tomato plant next to them. ha This was supposed to be my vegetable garden space but when my husband and I both ended up with health issues this year the garden went on the wayside. Someone was thinking of me I guess.  This is a top that I put together from one of the kits for the organization Quilts for Kids. Our local chapter covers most of our state and some surrounding ones too and we make quilts for sick kids in the hospitals.  This X and O quilt was so fun to make. I hope to get it quilted up but heard rain was in the forecast so had to get a photo in now!   When you make these little blocks you end up with tons of little triangles but this time I thought ahead and stitched them together right away.        94 half-square triangles anyone??? I have to trim them yet but I will be sure to make something scrappy with them. Speaking of scrappy.........

Friday Finish -Scraps Win!

Image
Scraps Scraps and more Scraps! They never end. I used scrap fabric, scrap bits of batting, scrap bits of leftover binding.  Does my scrap pile look smaller....um, No!  :) Still this finish makes me happy.  I am calling this one "Happiness". It measures in at 53" x 63".   I did the QAYG string method and then glue basted the blocks together and put the binding on. So simple and fun.  I started these blocks as part of a glue-baste technique demo at two of my guilds. I love how simple it is but truly effective. I love how you quilt it and the backing is done the front is done ....you're done! Very satisfying way to make a quilt quickly.  This shed is on my walking path and I finally stopped and as if I could use it for a quilt sometime and this quilt was perfect.  Can you tell I loved taking pictures there? This little quilt is probably going to be donated soon since the temps at night are dropping here. The backing was 3 pieces of fabric
