Scrap Stash and Go

Last week after finishing the My Way -Rebel  quilt using all fabrics from my stash I was so happy. I realized the potential of my stash and decided to dig in to more bags and totes and see what I had to make. This quilt was from a partial layer cake of Tula Pink fabrics. I decided to treat it as scrappy and add some Grunge.  At first I thought it was too busy but laying it out next to these beautiful red tulips, I think it looks happy!


The colors are kind of crazy but I really like it and its scrappy feel.  In keeping with the stash and using what I have I found 6 FQs for the backing.  These are some Anna Maria Horner prints I have had for a while. 

I think it works! What do you think?  Machine quilted with wavy stitch gives it great texture.   So happy to use up some of my stash...just wish it was more. Off to put my thinking cap on and see what is in the next bag or tote!! 

Before I forget, my lqg had a sew day at the IQSCM again and they had a special guest Shizuko Kuroha from Japan. She was a delight and she gave a demo on her hand work. Very inspiring and beautiful work.

It definitely works - not to busy at all, just cheerful and fun. Great job (I love using my stash - it's the SCRAPS that get me...much harder to get excited after I have used something a couple of times.)

"Mountain High, Valley Low"  48" x 38" improv from scraps line quilting in diamond pattern The improv triangle QAL with Nicholas Ball on IG was so much fun. It was just the most glorious distraction for me. I was able to sit down and make a few blocks at a time and didn't have to worry about measurements and sizes. It was just what I needed during my waiting game with my health issues.  The back piece was something I hand dyed a while back. I think it worked pretty great for this back with a few leftover blocks. I had several versions going and of course didn't think it was going to end up so big but it was just so fun to work on.  Luckily I had just the right aurifil thread. I ended up using most of the lighter ones which were a mix of 50 and 40 weight.  It took a long time to figure out what I wanted to quilt across all those colors. Project Quilting Season 5 - #1

  So excited that Kim over at  Persimon Dreams is hosting Project Quilting again this year. It was so fun last year and I accomplished a lot.  This year I had so many ideas for this first Challenge. I wanted to do something more arty but when it came down to it I really need to make lap or baby size quilts for some of the charities I contribute to. I am sure I will do something more artsy before the challenge is over but for today I am going with a version of a scrap quilt.  The Challenge is "String Along with Me" I used the same strip quilt as you go as I did in a quilt I made last Oct following Maureen Cracknell and her Herringbone QAYG quilt tutorial.  This was is called Scrappy II  it is 43 x 45. All scrap strings, scrap batting pieces and scrap binding. Urbanologie Quilt Along with SomeKindOfWonderful is underway and I have been doing my best to keep doing the weekly blocks. Dealing with the mess of a remodel in my home it has been challenging but I am now only one week behind.  Slow and steady wins the race right?    I love using the Quick Curve Ruler to create these blocks.   I am a Maker 24" x 24" pattern by Liz Harvantine   HERE matchstick quilting I have loved this pattern since it came out and this is my third time in making the small wall hanging size.   It is really fun to make.  This piece was inspired by a piece of text fabric that a friend who happens to be co-chair of this quilt show, gave me a few weeks ago. It has text and sheet music on it. Then I found some fabric that has sewing pattern terms and quilt blocks on it. Some fabric with writing, photography, architecture and diagrams and put them all together to represent the makers of many beautiful things. This wall hanging will be donated to one of my local quilt guilds for their quilt show auction coming up Oct 6-8 to raise money for the guild.   I might have to buy it back I love it so much!
