County Fair finish 1 - ufo

                                                                                

I wanted to finish some UFO's for the fair this year. Deadline is motivation. I pulled out this piece that I made as a qal.. The pattern is by Southern Charm Quilts and the qal is HERE
It was such a fun quilt to make and I used tons of colors and scraps to make this. Since the quilt is made in alternate grid style it was fun to put together. 



I did a simple diamond style quilting over the blocks. There is some applique, some paper piecing, curves  and regular piecing. 
60" x 70" 
I got a red on it.

Another?

I am not sure what to call this finish. I have been emptying baggies of projects or ideas of projects that I have kept together. This week I found a bag with 2 animal blocks framed up partially with the animal print fabrics. They were left over from a kids quilt I made years....ago. I decide this would be easy to just frame up some more of the animals in the panel and ...USE...IT....UP! ha So I don't know if this is a UFO or a WIP but it is now something! Between the front and the back I used up all but a strip of zebra and cheetah fabrics. I can put that in the scrap bag for another day.  I had four animals left from the panel and was able to make them into little backpacks. One of my local quilt guild is making backpacks for little ones to use for medical purposes.  The packs are lined and just need the cording yet.  So another bag gone and done. Something about working on Group Quilts

  My local quilt guild took on a group project last year. We wanted to show a T.O.M. = technique of the month, to members and then have them try it. Most of the techniques were improv based giving some the opportunity to try them with no fear. We chose a color and size scheme.  We used coral and cream and we were pretty free about the corals including shades of reds and violets. Same with the creams including some whites. Block options were 12.5, 6.5 squares or 12.5 x 6.5. The result of the blocks turned in at each monthly meeting was wonderful.   We were able to make this Medallion style quilt 84". 84", a row by row style quilt 84" x 90", a lap sized throw 48" x 60" and a wall hanging 24" x 24".  Fabric of said colors were donated to piece together the backing and use any leftover blocks that may be left.  This one was quilted by a former member Sonya Nelsen on her longarm. P.Q. 16.3 3 Common blocks - Googlie Fun

Project Quilting 16.3 is all about Common Blocks. At first I was not sure what I was going to do. I wanted to stick to my idea of making P.Q. pieces for charity and so with limited time this week I was thinking ...no way! Then I remembered this little panel quilt. It actually was a yard so double what you see here. I decided to cut it narrow and then add some common blocks to fill it out.  I pulled out some colors that I had close by (with out digging in my stash) and made some blocks to add.  Friendship star was first. Easy block but every time I make one I mess it up. ha I did play a bit with the fabric placement.  Simple 9 patch.  Played with the fabrics here too. Lastly the simple 4 patch border.  And the crazy thing is it is finished on Wed. I think it is true the more you have to do in a week the more you get done. I don't want to push that thought though.
