in Green Pastures




A while ago I started a mini scrap quilt of some of my favorite (all time)pieces of black and white fabrics. I wanted to use an ombre fabric to go from lightest yellow to dark green along with the lightest black and whites down to darker. I did this with a recent challenge piece for an art exhibition that is up now. (more on that in another post)

When I started laying the scrap squares out I knew I needed a bit of extra pooch to the yellow/greens. I cut small squares of batting so in those squares there is extra thick batting. With the quilting in each square it makes the solids pop up a bit. 




 I was trying to take a photo with the sunlight not cooperating but I think you get the idea. It's subtle. I like the idea of extra poof in areas. 

I am just happy I finally got it out and finished the facing on it so that I could take some quick pics. 
Again the sunlight was not with me but it is sort of fitting anyway.

Something about working on Group Quilts

  My local quilt guild took on a group project last year. We wanted to show a T.O.M. = technique of the month, to members and then have them try it. Most of the techniques were improv based giving some the opportunity to try them with no fear. We chose a color and size scheme.  We used coral and cream and we were pretty free about the corals including shades of reds and violets. Same with the creams including some whites. Block options were 12.5, 6.5 squares or 12.5 x 6.5. The result of the blocks turned in at each monthly meeting was wonderful.   We were able to make this Medallion style quilt 84". 84", a row by row style quilt 84" x 90", a lap sized throw 48" x 60" and a wall hanging 24" x 24".  Fabric of said colors were donated to piece together the backing and use any leftover blocks that may be left.  This one was quilted by a former member Sonya Nelsen on her longarm. 2019 Online Quilters Meet and Greet

I am so excited to be taking part in the 2019 Online Quilters Meet and Greet organized by Victoriana Quilt Designs! Welcome Welcome Welcome ~~~~~~~~~ My name is Kris and I have been quilting for quite a few years. Friday Finish -Scraps Win!

Scraps Scraps and more Scraps! They never end. I used scrap fabric, scrap bits of batting, scrap bits of leftover binding.  Does my scrap pile look smaller....um, No!  :) Still this finish makes me happy.  I am calling this one "Happiness". It measures in at 53" x 63".   I did the QAYG string method and then glue basted the blocks together and put the binding on. So simple and fun.  I started these blocks as part of a glue-baste technique demo at two of my guilds. I love how simple it is but truly effective. I love how you quilt it and the backing is done the front is done ....you're done! Very satisfying way to make a quilt quickly.  This shed is on my walking path and I finally stopped and as if I could use it for a quilt sometime and this quilt was perfect.  Can you tell I loved taking pictures there?
