WIP churn dash

Image
Tried my hand at a few small 6" churn dash blocks. I am hooked. They are so fun and cute to make.  I was just going to try a few blocks in all solids and then I decided this little 9 patch needed some print. I will now have to make more for the blocks I didn't use. Is it me or sometimes you just move from project to project making more projects??? WIP - Yikes!

Image
Winds are blowing here at about 40 mph and my sewing machine is going almost as fast. I really really really want to get at least one of my 1st Quarter goals done before the end of the month.  My AYoLF for March is one of my goals too so I am putting the pedal to the metal. I am letting nothing get in my way.   *Nope not even the wind blowing the gutter off the side of the house...seriously!  The wind was so strong it picked up our 4 1/2' grill and tossed it around the patio like a toy. Good thing it is hooked to the house by a gas line. I just phoned my husband and went back to quilting. ha :)   Skillbuilder work in progress! I finished the last six blocks and finished quilting them. The Skillbuilder BOM blocks are QAYG. You can see more about them over at PileoFabrics.com. This is last years blocks...sigh.  I have them trimmed and ready to glue baste.    20 Blocks complete. Strips cut and starched and ready to glue. I am not sure about how this all works but I am goin

WIP Wed- Friendship star

Image
Friendship Star March BOM block progress *note..it was so windy I had to find an alcove and tape the flimsy down!   Here is my Friendship Star quilt top that I have been working on for the Classic Block challenge at SewCanShe blog HERE The idea is to make the monthly block and post it to the group on FB. I decided this one was so fun so I made a whole top from my stash! Anyone can join in and we are just now voting on the April block.  I am linking up with WIP Wednesdays at Freshly Pieced  HERE and Let's Bee Social over at SewFresh Quilts HERE   and Fabric Frenzy Friday HERE

WIP and a little Modern inspiration from Jacquie

Image
Busy week so far. I have once again started something without finishing the previous project. Not only that but I took a class this week too. :) WIP is a little ditty  and the main quilt star is the Friendship Block chosen this month over at  SewCanShe .  If you want to participate you still have time for this month so check it out.    This is a big block! 18" I wanted to practice HST's and thought bigger was better. Then after the ease of practice I decided to make a few more to surround this one. I used a tutorial from Sew Happy Geek HERE  and came up with this so far.   "Bring on Spring!" ~ Now to make it big enough for our quilt guild charity which is 45 x 55 min so I have some borders or thinking to do. Most exciting news is once again this is from my stash! Then time for a little class yesterday. Our quilt guild brought in Modern Quilt guru Jacquie Gering. I can easily say that if she is near your home you need to go take a class by he

WIP Wed Polka Dot Bikini update

Image
WIP Wed already. I was such a slug over the weekend and now the week is flying. Making some progress anyway so linking up with Freshly Pieced WIP Wed HERE   Two corner stones for the bottom went together really well.  Two cornerstones attached to the first two rows ...done!!! I am so happy I figured out what I was doing wrong and have made some progress. I have one seam I am not happy about how it lined up in one spot but I am making progress. I love the KF fabrics around the outside in this scrappy way. This is progress for the Polka Dot Bikini QAL I am doing over at Fabrics and Flowers HERE . Now if I can just make some progress on my hormone balance I would be really happy! :) Also linking up with Let's BEE Social  HERE

WIP Wed

Slow and steady....  I have worked a little bit on my Polka Dot Bikini QAL. I made half of all the surrounding blocks (20 blocks) and now need to make the scrappy blocks together so that I can cut them in a curve and sew on my finished part. whew! Lots of piecing and curves for me. It is starting to come together and I think all the scraps will be Kaffe Fassett fabric scraps. I have truly been hitting my stash piles this year. Woop Woop!     The 16 center blocks were finished last week I just have not put them together. Waiting for any adjustments I might need.  And because it is not enough to have at least 3 other projects in the works on my table, I decided to tackle an idea for these color scraps.   Most are less than 3/4ths of an inch wide. I have an idea I think I want to do with the rainbow colors and gray. Giving it a go. The scraps came from some gals that were at my guilds sew day. The use of these in something is a challenge so we will see what I come up wit

WIP Wed- Rolling through the stash

Image
Time for Wed WIP check-in! I dug out this stack of MM fabric called Flight Pattern that I won last year. I made my great niece a cute craft travel bag out of some of the prints   Thought it was time to get something made out of the rest.  Mostly light fabrics and a few have bolder prints. I chose the tumbler block because I wanted to make one of those again.   The pack of fabric came with 4 solids too. I will just say this Michael Miller fabric is just a dream to sew and press. The colors are really vibrant together. This quilt just makes me smile when I watch it come together.  Linking up with  HERE   and Let's Bee Social HERE

WIP Wed. -Finish Wed!

Image
I was all ready to write about my progress on my diversionary little log cabin blocks I started last week. If you remember I was side-tracked from the project at hand and just wanted to sew...so I made mini logs. (even had my husband sew a few logs on) :) ***** Update: I entered this log cabin finish in the FB group sponsored by  SewCanShe  and won! I am so so happy and shocked...but happy!!woohoo Well today I was quilting on it at 6 a.m. and by lunch time I was thinking I would just sew the binding on...then Voila! it is done.   Trying out the rolling foot...let's just say "LOVE IT"! I am trying not to let the imperfections of my FMQing stop me...I just kept quilting. The log blocks in the center were pretty bulking so I just did minimal circles there. I faced a bit of my 'negative space' fear by making up part of the circles out in no where land. I sort of had this lacy look going so I went with it.  And...this is what I ended up with. So much

WIP Wed. progress or diversion?

Image
Sometimes when I think too long on a problem quilt or a hard project I feel the need to just sew. I happen to have some fat quarters that I came across when straightening up around my cutting table (another diversion from hard project).  I can't remember ever making a log cabin quilt before. I starting playing with the fat quarters and on such a small scale comes these little 4.5" blocks.    I like it so far. I have 36 little blocks. I am not sure if I will keep making them or stop there. There are lots of layout possibilities. Right now I am leaning towards a star shape. I don't know...this was just a diversion. I think I am ready to get back to the other projects now so this will sit on the back burner a bit.  There is a group on FB from  SewCanShe that is making things this week with mini log cabin blocks. So fun. (it might motivate me)??? For now off to work on what I was working on before I got distracted!! :) Linking up with Lorna with Let's

WIP Wed and Goodnight Irene!

Image
Yes it is Wednesday already and I am making some progress on my "Goodnight Irene" quilt top. Terry at  Terry's Treasures is hosting a sew-along for this quilt.    So here are my blocks that I am working on. I am having some trouble with the seams matching but overall the blocks are not too bad.    I decided to use some red, white and blue fat quarters I had on hand (you know ...use what you have instead of buying so much..haha). I am sashing it with navy kona. The random piecing is working well. Instead of cutting all the squares I stripped groups of 4 together and then cut and arranged. The 16 patches went quilt. The x blocks not so much! I also had trouble with 1/4" seams and scant. I need to be more careful and hopefully lesson was learned. I will see how loud I scream when I am putting the rows together. :) Also linking up with Lee at  Freshly Pieced for WIP Wednesday

Wed. WIP - back at it

Image
Here it is midweek and I am fighting the urge to start something new before working on an old. I stopped and took a breath yesterday and told myself I can stick to a new years goal longer than a week...I hope anyway! I did not set a goal down in writing, but in my mind I would like to sew something old (or at least work on it) before starting something new.  With that in mind my WIP for this Wed. are a few of my Skill Builder BOMs at Pile o Fabric with Alyssa Lichner .  I modified a couple blocks to my liking and have them sandwiched and ready to quilt. I think I will try to push through a few more blocks and then set them up to quilt all a once.  I am just happy to get at them again as I have fabric set aside for this BOM in several places and I need the space.  I am linking up with WIP Wednesday @ Lee with Freshly Pieced

WIP Wednesday - catching up slowly

Image
Today is WIP day with Lee over at Freshly Pieced . For the last few weeks I have not been participating because I have been losing and so falling behind on my WIP's. Okay enough whining! I am taking charge and working on getting caught up. Today I am working on my Skill Builder blocks from Alyssa over at  Pileofabric .  Finally all three of these are put in their boarders and ready to quilt. I also have the hexi block (below)done that needs to be quilted too. I am going to watch the FMQing tips and after lunch hit the machine. I want to get them done because tomorrow two more blocks will be up to make.  Slow and steady wins the race??????? :)
