Friendship, Procrastination and Cuddles



rsz_1friendship_button_small FINAL It was time to post about the last block of our Supernova Friendship Block swap a week ago....sigh (top two are mine, bottom two are Jens)
I am just now getting around to posting the pic! My now, "good" friend Jennifer from Jennifer under the juniper tree thankfully, has already posted our finished blocks. Proof, that yes indeed I had my block done AND we actually made extra blocks so that our quilts would be 12 blocks instead of 10.  Jen could not make herself put one of the blocks on the back. I agree! This was so fun and I am so thankful to have met up with Jen.

Our sharing friendship question this month was on unexpected blessings in our lives. I have to say this experience with Jen has been that and more! You just never know what you might find in a neighborhood near you. Jen doesn't live very far from me so this has been a double blessing in disguise. I hope we do lots more quilting things after the quilts are done.

I am confessing that I have been unmotivated to do much work on all my projects. I have not felt the best health-wise and my husband has not either. We are just getting through the days. It started me thinking about the talk around the blog-universe about selfish sewing. I know there is a time when you have to have a break and make or do something for yourself. Also, there is a time when you have to reach outside yourself and do something for others.

Since my sewing has been on the slow burner I thought if I picked up a couple quilt sandwiches from my quilt guilds cuddle quilt program I could just do some sort of mindless quilting. I am happy to say I finished one this morning.  yeah!

This is a scrap quilt I am sure from donations. I just put the flannel on the back and quilted it with a simple serpentine stitch and my walking foot. It feels good to be stitching again even though my projects are stacked a mile high.

the blocks look great! I don't think you can call it selfish quilting when it's for charity, but good for you for doing what you feel like rather than what you feel you should do.

Project Quilting Season 5 - #1

  So excited that Kim over at  Persimon Dreams is hosting Project Quilting again this year. It was so fun last year and I accomplished a lot.  This year I had so many ideas for this first Challenge. I wanted to do something more arty but when it came down to it I really need to make lap or baby size quilts for some of the charities I contribute to. I am sure I will do something more artsy before the challenge is over but for today I am going with a version of a scrap quilt.  The Challenge is "String Along with Me" I used the same strip quilt as you go as I did in a quilt I made last Oct following Maureen Cracknell and her Herringbone QAYG quilt tutorial.  This was is called Scrappy II  it is 43 x 45. WIP - End of Summer

The weather lately means it is the end of summer. I still think my new quilt block quilt is pretty sizzling hot!  I love this block and how it came together. So far I added the corner stones and surrounding half stones. I really don't think I want a border on this but will use the orange or yellow for binding maybe. Still deciding. No idea how I am going to quilt around those jagged blocks yet either. Any ideas?  I have the back pieced and should try to get to it yet this week. Around the Block Party!

"Around the Block" party finish this week. 40 "x 40" approx.  My last week was so productive that I only have a small finish so far this week.  My lqg got together one afternoon to make improv house blocks. It was so much fun that I made a whole block party of them.  I was trying out an idea for a color challenge using a paint chip that has 3 colors. This one had an amber orange color, a chocolate brown and an aqua. I sort of mixed in some gold too but it was fun trying out a color scheme like this and I think it would be fun guild project.  I love how they turned out and and it has started some talk about doing some outreach work for Habitat for Humanity homes. Finish it up Friday and S'more Love Giveaway

  Today I have a quilt top done from my "Goodnight Irene" QAL over at Terry's Treasures HERE .  This was a pretty fast and fun put together. Few issues along the way but now going to piece a back and get this baby quilted. Today...or tomorrow...or soon!!!!   I decided to go 5 x 7 rows and then add the border. I think it will be a pretty good size. I am going to use more fat quarters for the back I think. The mix of prints and colors worked pretty well overall. Indoor pic..sorry! We have had nothing but high winds the last couple of days.  Lovely looking scorched ironing board in the corner and all for your viewing pleasure.:) I will be linking up with  Crazy Mom Quilts Finish it up Friday Now I am going to let you know that yesterday was my 100th post ! whoop whoopie!!!  AND....
