ALYoF Jan and Finish it Friday



Two words about this photo shoot...Windy and Weeds!  Dry sticks actually. I clomped through some pretty sketch areas but really it was an excuse to enjoy the superb weather that day. I was not going to try to shoot this quilt out of doors but 58 degrees called to me. :)
So my January A Lovely Year of Finishes = The Bead quilt. I think I am going to call it paper beads. It reminds me of the magazine print roll up beads I used to make as a kid.

The more I walked the cooler the areas there were to explore. 
Back from my walk...see the crinkly goodness? This is a simple wavy line quilting that I thought would sort of add to the abacus spinning on the bars. Eh, not sure if it worked but I like how crunchy it is.

Size = 50 x 60 approx.
pieced and quilted with Aurifil 2600 my fav
Wavy stitch on my sewing machine used for quilting
All scraps and stash except for the mint green which is Matrix (love)

The quilt is beautiful! I love the serpentine stitching. It really crinkles the quilt to be soft and cuddly. I'm tempted to try the QCR after seeing your quilt.

This is a beautiful quilt. I like how you pieced your binding while matching up a piece of the mint green binding with the mint green strip on the backside.

The weather was so nice the other day wasn't it? I'm glad you were able to enjoy it. I just love the color and design of this quilt! Your photos are cool too!

"Mountain High, Valley Low"  48" x 38" improv from scraps line quilting in diamond pattern The improv triangle QAL with Nicholas Ball on IG was so much fun. It was just the most glorious distraction for me. I was able to sit down and make a few blocks at a time and didn't have to worry about measurements and sizes. It was just what I needed during my waiting game with my health issues.  The back piece was something I hand dyed a while back. I think it worked pretty great for this back with a few leftover blocks. I had several versions going and of course didn't think it was going to end up so big but it was just so fun to work on.  Luckily I had just the right aurifil thread. I ended up using most of the lighter ones which were a mix of 50 and 40 weight.  It took a long time to figure out what I wanted to quilt across all those colors. Project Quilting Season 5 - #1

  So excited that Kim over at  Persimon Dreams is hosting Project Quilting again this year. It was so fun last year and I accomplished a lot.  This year I had so many ideas for this first Challenge. I wanted to do something more arty but when it came down to it I really need to make lap or baby size quilts for some of the charities I contribute to. I am sure I will do something more artsy before the challenge is over but for today I am going with a version of a scrap quilt.  The Challenge is "String Along with Me" I used the same strip quilt as you go as I did in a quilt I made last Oct following Maureen Cracknell and her Herringbone QAYG quilt tutorial.  This was is called Scrappy II  it is 43 x 45. All scrap strings, scrap batting pieces and scrap binding.   I am a Maker 24" x 24" pattern by Liz Harvantine   HERE matchstick quilting I have loved this pattern since it came out and this is my third time in making the small wall hanging size.   It is really fun to make.  This piece was inspired by a piece of text fabric that a friend who happens to be co-chair of this quilt show, gave me a few weeks ago. It has text and sheet music on it. Then I found some fabric that has sewing pattern terms and quilt blocks on it. Some fabric with writing, photography, architecture and diagrams and put them all together to represent the makers of many beautiful things. This wall hanging will be donated to one of my local quilt guilds for their quilt show auction coming up Oct 6-8 to raise money for the guild.   I might have to buy it back I love it so much! Urbanologie Quilt Along with SomeKindOfWonderful is underway and I have been doing my best to keep doing the weekly blocks. Dealing with the mess of a remodel in my home it has been challenging but I am now only one week behind.  Slow and steady wins the race right?    I love using the Quick Curve Ruler to create these blocks.
